Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Hi --
I know I have not been around here in a while. Over the holidays I fell off the wagon and have been very up and down. I got very drunk last night and as always my wife is pissed at me. I really need to get back on the wagon. It's always easy to say that when I'm hungover but not so easy to do when the booze is available.
I'm hoping you all can help me get back on track and stay on track.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

I'm on day 11 today. If I can do it, ANYONE can....lol.
Glad to see you around again.

You're right, it's easy to say you're going to quit when you're hungover. I did it a thousand times lying in my bed the morning after a night out drinking and struggling to get out of bed. But I think you really want to this time. Not just for your wife, who understandably is upset and wants the guy she fell in love with and married, but for yourself. I think you want to be in control of your life, and mindful of those who care for you. I also believe you want to be able to live up to your life's potential, whatever that might be, and realize that alcohol has no concern for you or your personal aspirations.
Do me a favor. Print and cut out your post from this morning and put it in your wallet Read it whenever you're tempted to drink again. Remind yourself of what you felt like the morning of January 16th 2016 and how if affected your loved ones. If you feel like you can't do this alone, get some help. Everyone has an opinion on AA, but they do have structure and a proven formula. You might need this of similar resource if your willpower alone doesn't work. You alone will have to decide.
We're here for you Rich and please keep us posted of how you're doing.

I badly want to help you, seeing your struggle these last many months.
But the truth is that we can't help you get back on track.
I've sadly watched you struggle, insisting that painting and jobs around the house will keep you occupied not to drink.
You need a program, that not only eliminates the desire to drink, but the tools to make you a better person.
You have to want to stop and you have to do it for yourself.
You also have to realize that it's highly unlikely that you can ever drink like a normal human being again.
Hard stuff to admit and like you said, it's a lot easier when you're hungover and the wife is angry with you.
I will check in regularly including from my phone when I'm out so I keep my support group near!

You know....your wife is upset with you because she knows she stands a good chance of becoming your widow! She is in alot of emotional pain. I am not blaming you but suggesting you use this as motivation to do everything possible to stay sober. An outpatient treatment program and AA worked for me.
I will keep you and your wife in my thoughts and prayers!
God Bless!
