Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. So, lately in my home AA group, the hot topic has been, the definition of sober. They tried to make it a rule that anyone who is secretary is CLEAN and sober for 6 months. Clean meaning, free of any MIND ALTERING SUBSTANCES. It was voted down.
Hmm...what does that mean???
While I agree that one should not secretary a meeting while high on pot, or tripped out on any other drug for that matter, I think that it is possible for someone to utilize other prescribed meds, including marijuana (never before a meeting) and not be drinking, and be "sober".
I know everyone has their own program, but where I have a problem is that AA says, "The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop DRINKING" and yet, some want to discount our "sober" time, because of other things, that are NOT a problem.
Yes, I know that we often become addicted to these others substances, and if we do, we need to take a look at that.
I just needed to put this out to you guys, because it has come up several times for me today and it's not even 4 pm yet. lol
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

But alcholics and prescription pillheads saw themselves as top of the heap-more refined addiction.
High is high imo.
Is it to escape something? Maybe feelings, pain, to get out of myself?
Generally my own sixth sense (HP) tells me the answer if I am willing to listen.

I know everybody has heard that, but that is my favorite, and is so true.
