Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Will, and I've been sober since 3/1/15. I look forward to meeting everybody!
I'm curious to know....
1. How long have you been sober?
2. What happened that caused you to make the decision to become sober?
You know my answer to number 1. Number 2 was after receiving my 2nd DWI within 5 years.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

I don't remember my exact day in which I took my last drink but it was around the time, I went through my divorce about 3 or 4 years ago.
I am interested to know how YOU got sober because the path you take just might help somebody else, you never know who is reading these posts!
Hope you hang around and participate.
God Bless!
1. I'm 2.5 years sober.
2. Tired of being powerless over alcohol. I wasn't drunk all the time, but I couldn't guarantee I wouldn't get drunk when I started drinking.
1. 11yrs, 10mo.
2. I was tired of not wanting to live.
I quit becuz the other options were 'less than ideal', or even the Big One.
1. I have been sober 17 Days (after 2 stints of falling around 70-80 Days). Longest time I have ever been sober~1.5 years. I was pregnant for half of that time!
2. I have been abusing alcohol since I was 16 years old and self medicated with it for my Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. When I drank, I got drunk and participated in irresponsible, risky behavior without a care in the world. It has affected my whole life- relationships, career, and family. I really am lucky to be alive. Now, I am on medication for my OCD and have had years of therapy. I have found some self love and acceptance through my yoga practice and dharma studies classes. I have forgiven myself and will not look and grieve about my bat shit crazy past. I found DS in 2010 and I was drunk and suicidal in a hotel business center at my lowest, commuting to work from the hotel everyday and getting drunk all day on my day off and after work. My kind friends here helped me through that time. I am now a mommy of a beautiful 2 year old who is my light, my angel.

1. About six years, I dont know exact as I have never counted as I decided to quit forever.
2. Take your pick - maxed out credit cards, embarrassing dirty underwear, not being in control of my own life, losing my edge at work, health going downhill, no self respect...
I quit when the dr told me my liver enzymes were three times normal and I would be needing a liver transplant if I kelp going. Well that even dint get me to quit, I kept drinking. I really quit after a big bender when I felt that the choice was to either kick down my front door and go get an apt and drink myself to death or check out an as meeting. I had tried many times before and the agony of not being able to live with OR without booze was horrible. I just couldn't do it on my own
