Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I know the steps and I can apply the steps on anything in my life. I still worry a lot, and I know I need to practice more faith when I do. What things do you do when you need to calm yourself and prevent worrying from becoming a real threat to your sobriety?

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

Life can be a merry go round at times, but daily meditation has helped me tremendously. Like anything in life that's beneficial, meditation takes practice. Sometimes I forget and I will skip a day or the dog or the phone will interrupt me but I rarely feel guilty about missing a day because just the desire to have a conversation with God is a prayer in itself.
I am glad to see more posts in this group. So thankyou for being here!
God Bless
Give it to God.
Next week I will have 16 years sobriety. In all honesty, I can't think of anything that has been a threat to my sobriety since I completed working the steps and achieved a "spiritual experience" and "psychic change".
Read the Grapes of Wrath. When I think, gee I’m suffering, did I watch my crops wither in drought for the fifth year, see my once fertile land become desert? There’s that scene where the tough as nails women look to their men to see if this last hit will knock them down and they see the jaws clench and hands become fists and they know that the fights not over.
I was in the high Sierras in February years ago. Hiked 20 miles through snow and ice. Cooked lentils and rice for dinner and plain oatmeal for breakfast then did it again and again. Never been more at peace.
The worry is the fear of will I have enough? We actually need a lot less than we think we do. Keep it simple and real.
I like to say to myself, will I die? Probably not so let’s keep it in perspective. And if it’s my time then I’ll be making room for another soul to walk this beautiful Earth. Pretty simple. Helps me understand fear.
Pan Dance by Jethro Tull is a great way to hear what humans are capable of creating. The renaissance followed the Black Death and I think we’re a long way from kind of suffering. What will come from our dramatic situation I wonder? What can I create and offer? Have a drink and hide? That is the only thing that could break me.
Tonight I watched my granddaughter playing in the garden picking peas and lettuce for snacks. Tomato plants so big she could hide behind them, squash and pumpkin with leaves she could wrap up in That was very calming. Something I’ve been given time to create.
Top of my list of creating calm: fourth year of no tv. Know how much time I have to live without that damm box?
The caregiver stuff like Loveydovey has shared has been my largest challenges in life. Unfortunately, this pandemic is getting in the way of supports and treatment.....as if it’s not difficult enough.
We must remember God helps those who help themselves....remember to wear the bleeping mask!
