Bankruptcy is legal. You are taking steps to continue to move forward in your life of sobriety. There is no way that shame will add something positive to your situation. YOU ARE NOT A BAD PERSON! Keep moving forward hon!

Bob you are most definitely NOT a bad person, you got caught up in a bad situation is all. I'm sure there are many people in the same boat and no one likes it, but sometimes it's the right option. I had to do it back years ago after my divorce, it was the right choice for me. You'll be okay, hang in there sweetpea. :)

Nah, you're an alcoholic! These are just some of the things that happen to some of us, and not others.

One never knows how low a bottom can go...but!!! this doesn't mean that any of us have to go any lower! You work your program, Bob! Don't you let this get you by the throat and try to choke the life out of you again like alcohol was doing!

Working 2 jobs before you started drinking....see! You are a responsible sober man! It was the alcoholic, not Bob the man!

What is importanat is what you do after the bankrupcy. I filed bankrupcy in 1998. Medical bills galore. After my bankrupcy was filed, it was about living within my means and that was very difficult to do with two young children and being a single mom.

Yip $9 hr and paying for day care and child support for my son. I didn't realize it at the time but by staying out of debt I was making an amends to society of sorts.

Gradually, over several years...ok it was almost 7 years, I qualified to buy a home. What we do today...is important. While bankrupcy is not something anyone wants to do, you do have the opportunity to turn over a new leaf. It will take time and diligence but you can do it!

Get rid of the guilt and work to better your life.

No Bob, it dosn't make you a bad person, just human. Do what you have to do, the old legwork, and life will improve, one day at a time. :}

Hey, Bob...I don't think being forced to make decisions such as bankruptcy makes you a bad person. For many years you suffered from diseases that interfered with your life. It happens to many different people. I have to agree, it's what you do after filing that is going to make the difference. Part of our disease process often leaves us having to once again become functioning members of society again. Best of luck.

Your not alone. Not only have i had to deal with crippling effects of a 2 year long divorce and custody battle, but also recovery, and losing one of my two jobs. I am doing what I can do to prevent bankruptcy but, depending on the divorce settlement, it may be my only option. I am just like any othter alcoholic, we think everything is permanet. This two will pass and things will get better. The most importnat thing is still belief in my HP and sobriety. Everything else can and will be worked out.

Bob, it might be worth reminding yourself that anyone who has been under the rule of rapacious creditors such as alcoholism and other addictions will emerge with much emptier pockets.

The fact we emerge at all is something to be thankful for. Lots of wise and helpful comments above, please take heed and comfort from them; that if you carry on along the spiritual path you will be okay.

I went bankrupt last year and it was the best thing I ever did. I trotted off to court without a lawyer because I couldnt afford one and it wasnt as bad as i expected(being carted of to prison and damned forever)I have a great imagination and built it up so much in my head but it was simple and over in a couple of hours
