Estrangement and Alcholism

Recently, I have lost my child as estranged. What are your feeling on the fact that it could be drugs or alcoholism? I am new to this topic as I am beginning to think this is the root of the problem.

She got distance from us over the course of the last several years, with a recent fight with a family member causing it to come to total estrangement.

Estrangement could be the result of many things. What makes you think it might be due to drugs or alcoholism?

It sounds like there could be alot of other issues involved. What was the fight about and was your child under the influence at the time.

Alcoholism typically results in isolation. I wish you some relief as this is got to be a very tough thing for you. Have you ever thought of checking into some group therapy. Like alanon? Prayers from here

I know my alcoholic son is estranged from us as well. The shame that goes with alcoholism could be part of the problem as well as the isolation that comes from it as well. It seeks and destroys relationships for sure. Will pray for your heart, I know the pain that you are feeling is unbearable at times. Best thing is to detach as much as you can with love and let God take care of your son.

     I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...
