Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I know a few weeks back I saw a lady on the beach with a tin hidden in her bag that she was swigging out and I was so glad not to be that person anymore (although mine would have been a bottle of wine!).
Today I am thankful to be sober and thankful to be hear being reminded.
The last time I witnessed a bunch of drunks was when Jim & I went with friends to an Astro's game. The entire place reeked of beer.
Me & a friend of mine (also in recovery) commented on it as we never smelled it before when we drank in the past. Being such a HUGE stadium, I was surprised it was so potent!
Regardless of all that, we had a blast and I felt so good that I didn't want to be a part of that drunken crowd. Just not me anymore. It was almost humorous to watch some of them but it ultimately made me feel sick for them.
It was the first baseball game I had gone to sober. What a blessing for me and those around me! LOL!
Oh, My Astros won the game against Jim's Cubs! WhoooooHooooooo!
I have brothers that get like what you described. When drinking the past becomes inflated, overwhelmingly sentimental, and morbidly sickening. I remember sometimes we literally fought each other over trivial moments in time that I believe none of us accurately remembered. At other times we were lacrymose to the point of making you want to puke. We smelled like a distillery and our conclusions were that somehow we had fun with the lot of it.
Anymore, I really have not hungout with my brothers since getting out of treatment three months ago. Since they are still drinking; we have very little in common other than being siblings.
I try to keep one thing in the forefront concerning this; But for the Grace of God, there go I. Fellows in the program tell me that my addiction is doing push-ups outside while I am writing this post. True -- God is keeping me sober and I thank Him for this. If I get too cocky, overconfident, or draw myself away from recovering persons and working a solid program of recovery -- I will join them once again and die in my addiction. I don't want that tonight so, I think I will hang out with you guys until it is time to go to bed.......
But reading other peoples posts I think i understand it now.
It is true that but for the grace of god (and ourselves) that we will once again be that person. I really like the idea of the addiction doing push ups - It is always waiting.
NOT YELLING!!!!! :)
Also, what he's saying is, maybe you might just start drinking again if you find those drunks not so cute and may just want to drink again to put up with their stupidity.
and by pass the "being set up" comment......my best friend was a drunk and druggie.........he met his heart and has been happily married for over 20 years.......sometimes miracles come in whispers that only two can hear.
best wishes and nods.
