Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Pleasanthill is indeed NOT so pleasant, but Bleakers Lane is rather lovely...go figure...
I do agree that getting to the party (getting sober) is the goal and how we get (and stay) there is not the real issue. All I am trying to say is for some of us, riding in the disease, or defective gene, or turn yourself over to a higher power car will not get us to your party. It is not a believable vehicle for us. If those vehicles get some people to your party, I am glad it works for them.

What I got was you were saying that people who sincerely believe that alcoholism is a disease are mistaken and are only doing so to relieve themselves of responsibility.
So using your logic, one could say that for others, believing alcoholism is a disease is THEIR way of getting to THE party.
Also, because other diseases don't require abstention from alcohol as part of the cure renders alcoholism, therefore, not a disease is poor logic. Diabetes II can be reversed, for example, by eliminating sugary and fatty foods and it IS a disease.
I, myself, haven't made up my mind one way or the other.
I believe that alcoholism is a disease. I also believe that propensity to substance abuse is inherited. That's what justifies it for me. It helps keep me sober.
I also support and respect each individual's method of getting and staying sober.
I don't support people who drop by here now and then to post a "hot button" topic just to stir up shit -- under the guise of "oh, just sharing my opinion." We all are finally gelling back together after an onslaught of that kind of crap that was allowed to go on (in my opinion) for far too long.
I am closing this discussion so it does not continue down the path of veiled insults and derogatory comments.
