Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Before I sobered I was always looking for a fix. A fix to my troubles and a fix to my craving. Didn't always have to be to escape problems...I just wanted to feel that euphoria because I am quite simply an alcoholic who likes that feeling.
I always found it in alcohol and I would plow anything in my way over to get it...my kids, bf, family, job, etc. Once I got it, all was better...until the next day...Then I was always looking for another fix. A fix to my problem with alcoholism.
This kind of mess went on for a long time, because I didn't do a damn thing to change a damn thing. I sat crying out to God to help me, but I felt He must have more important things to do.
God didn't have more important things to do. I did. I was too busy to see all the things He put in from of me that could have helped me because I always put the booze in front of His ideas of a fix.
I finally got desperate enough and did what I had to do, and went to rehab. I had to get away from DS because all this became to me was an online bar in my living room. I heard everyone talking to me, but I wasn't listening. Until I had enough.
I couldn't keep running away from something that I was also chasing. It always took me back to the same place ... drunk.
A decision had to be made...live or die...I decided I had a lot to live for, and here I am...happy, joyous and free.
I'm a proud member of AA,, where I found the solution to my once delusional world. Of course AA isn't the only way, but may you find yours NOW!
I dont know how quickly things can be done in the US as it is different in the UK but would recommend taking action immediately.
I would also say that the willingness to change needs to be there. None of the suggested things will have any effect unless there is that desire. There are no miracle cures for this. We have to be willing to play our part in getting well.
To our friend, please try not to lose hope. Things can and will change if you can do the things that have been suggested. I and others here have been in similar situations to you and have been able to recover and change. It can happen for you too. It can be scary to think about taking action but it really is better than the alternative.
PM me anytime if I can help in any way.
I am here if you want to talk. I have been where you are now and I survived you. You can, too. There is a wonderful, sober life waiting for you if you want it. The world is your oyster.
