Day 1 again

I am new to the group and could use a 'sponsor' type person. Today is another day 1 for me. I pray that it is my last. I've had a problem for decades, but it is truely out of hand. I quit for 18 days this month, I don't know what my trigger is. I do have two people I have shared with, but think I need someone who also shares the actual problem. I'm a female in my 50's. I'm also exploring SMART recovery - has anyone tried that? Please forgive me if I this is the wrong place to post. Thanks to all in advance

I tried Smart Recovery and there is not a lot of long time sobriety in it. I chose AA because I felt at home there surrounded by people who have been where I had been. I got clean at 30. So, you can do it. Take a deep breath and look where you went wrong. I am sure you can identify the trigger if you look hard enough. I would suggest trying AA and getting a sponsor ASAP and start working on the steps. The steps bring freedom. I am a recovered alcoholic as long as I maintain my spiritual mainteniece program. Plus work steps 3, 10,11 & 12. Keep at it and don't give up. I see you have the willingness and that will help.

Welcome. I definetly can relate. I quit on my own many many times. the last of any length on my own was 93 days. Cold turkey/ exercise/ but didnt talk to anyone at all. Did find some support here but couldnt really take it in. I needed the in person piece to help me realize that I was / am alcoholic and all that meant.
AA was/ is amazing for me. I havent tried Smart Recovery so can't comment there. AA has helped me find a wonderful sponsor who I can share everything with. She has 28 years of sobriety, and has a sponsor herself with 30+ years. I feel like its a huge support to have that behind/ around me.
The steps, the reading, the fellowship, were like coming out of a really awful fog. I sort of became an alcoholic in AA in that I came to accept reality.I havent had to have a drink since. My sobriety date is march 28, 2010.

welcome...is smart recovery the thing that incorporates music and church into the twelve steps? I have a friend who is doing the program that does that....but he broke my other friends heart in his sobriety by cheating on her as he was rekindling from her first marriage and I think his first marriage had failed years before but they had gotten back together...and then he dumped that on her in his recovery...not that he cannot but it was sad for my friend to go thru it another time with him after her 3rd hubby had done same thing....

You know what-we are all kind of on day one-even those of us who have "years" sober. It is today that counts, this could be your last. My last. Make it count, I have only today.

I would try something extreme if I were you. I would go to the end of my ropes to get sober. What that means to you is different. I think though you cannot rule out anything. Sounds like your life may be at stake.
