Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

bob your not alone we all from time to time do the same thing the key is to identify when it happens & correct it.
grateful to know today i'm not god or in my case an HP.
Bob, there are situations where I would have been maniacal a couple of months ago. The promises do come true. "We will know how to handle situations which used to baffle us." "We will know peace."
Comes to mind for me right now.

Haha!! Now I can let that go! It's all good :)
Letting go and Letting God is also....I cant HE can.
Lord, make me a channel of thy peace,
that where there is hatred, I may bring love;
that where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness;
that where there is discord, I may bring harmony;
that where there is error, I may bring truth;
that where there is doubt, I may bring faith;
that where there is despair, I may bring hope;
that where there are shadows, I may bring light;
that where there is sadness, I may bring joy.
Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort than to be comforted;
to understand, than to be understood;
to love, than to be loved.
For it is by self-forgetting that one finds.
It is by forgiving that one is forgiven.
It is by dying that one awakens to Eternal Life.
This is what I pray when Im having a hard time handing over control.
i'm a hell of a lot better when i see things like the st. francis prayer that's posted here. there was a time i would close down my mind and not here anything else. progress. its all about respecting other people views & hope they respect mine.

After having practiced this for some time, I found it was easy to get out of thought and to be able to observe thought instead. That is, I was able to become aware of thought and become less and less trapped into thinkingness.
By letting go, I mean to move into awareness-which, at the same time, moves my attention out of thought and all the chaos that being trapped in thinking tends to be associated with.
Being in awareness for periods of time brings peace and the ability to allow things to be. Probably, mostly because I'm not caught up in thinking. Thinking is judgement, wanting, not wanting, frustration, being critical. Awareness is being at peace with what is.
In this process, I move my attention inwards in order to get out.
Thomas Merton once wrote, "I cannot make the universe obey me. I cannot make other people conform to my own whims and fancies. I cannot make even my own body obey me."
As I type this, I have NO IDEA how to move my fingers -- I mean -- I go to hit keys and they seem to work; but ask me what is going on .. what part of me is controlling that ... I dunno. And, while it might be a curiosity to learn some of the biology behind it, I don't need to understand the biology, chemistry and physics to type. And even if I do know all of those things to the most minute detail -- I still can't explain "why".
Ask a stroke victim who has partial paralysis and you might get a very different insight.
But I can tell you about making a decision to go to the store to buy some milk and a loaf of bread in New York and waking up the next day with a hangover in a motel in Canada.
Where was my will?
Today the thought of a drink is not appealing. What happened?
Something has changed inside of me, my will has been redirected. And, I remember what my old sponsor used to say frequently, "God can move mountains but you have to bring the shovel."
Some days I am able to do the next thing before me without any big hassle from my own brain. Other days, I can't seem to get it together. But this is life ... and not too shabby for a guy who couldn't go a day without drinking.
Before I got a sponsor and did the Steps I struggled to understand this process of handing over to a Higher Power. At that time I failed to realise that Step 3 is only about making a Decision. The decision must be followed by Action and it is by taking action through the other steps that we hand over.
Somewhere along the way, perhaps between Steps 4 and 9, a change comes about in the way of thinking that brings us closer to God. This brings about a fit spiritual condition. In Steps 10 and 11 we do some things each day to maintain that closer contact with God. We do this by putting Steps 4 to 9 into action on a daily basis through Step 10, and through prayer and meditation in Step 11.
Our will means all of our thoughts; our lives means all of the deeds that we do and the action that we take each day. That pretty much covers everything.
