Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Hello everyone,
Thanks for all of the support/positive feedback. This site is definitely a blessing. The freedom to express myself to everyone at DS really helps me to put things in perspective.
I wanted to share a bit of my current delima as I'm sue most of you can relate. I'll try to make it as short as possible.
I was arrested under suspicion of OVI on 12/28/15 (my sober date). My pre-trial was 2-3-15. I was ordered to have interlock installed in my car (its an Ohio thing). I got my driving privileges back on 2-11-15 for work only (not allowed to drive to meetings). I have done everything that has been asked of me. Then last night when I got home and got my mail I had a little surprise. I was told my driving privileges are suspended because I did not show proof of insurance until 12/17. My cards are only for six months and I am paid in full so I am covered. After I finally calmed down I started contacting other insurance agents about my situation and evidently there is a special type of policy that I require due to this violation. I already missed 6 weeks of work because of this, my attorney is going to cost me 4500, I will probably owe in excess of 1500 in court costs plus all the other variables. In total this will cost me in excess of 7000.00 amd if I miss more work the cost could be my job.
Obviously there is a valuable lesson to be learned here but it still drives me nuts. When I was in court there was a woman who stole over 300.00 worth of merchandise from a Kroger. The people from Kroger didn't even show up so she walked! Not even a slap on the wrist for goodness sake.
I know I'll get through this but man is this one tough.
Thanks for letting me vent.
Peace

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

I remember telling my AA sponser whenever I was having a very bad day and he always told me the same thing...."This too shall pass"!
And it always did, and life got better, much better but it didn't happen overnight. It took time.
This doesn't mean that life was always a bed of roses because I stopped drinking, In fact I am having a rough day today but know what? This too shall pass!
Thankyou for sharing, I needed to read this post today!
God Bless!

On the positive side you will only get 10 days most likely, and if its in rehab it will be a double blessing. I still can't figure out how there can be so many people who call themselves alcoholic on this site and could never have gotten a dui/dwi lol! Being a recovering addicted drinker whose had his share I had to get over that one and see that my story was not theirs and we all got here in our own way.
I could say good luck to you but your desire to do the right thing will eventually pan out and put things in your favor.Keep that positive edge.
Reason the Kroger people didn't show up probably is because more than likely whatever they were doing at the time was worth more to them than $300...it's a drop in the bucket.
However, driving under the influence you are risking so much more. You can kill someone or yourself if you get into an accident and that is why they take it so seriously. Looking back on mine, I'm grateful it taught me the lesson of not drinking and driving without teaching me an even greater lesson.
The financial aspects are difficult, but you can work through it. Try to be grateful things weren't worse and hopefully learn not to drink and drive again (hopefully not to drink at all). :)
I was just reminiscing about the word consequences and I flashed back to so many faces and so many stories I've witnessed. Some of the stories were enough to make a sound enough impression to slow down the progression and just as many have continued in a tailspin that is hard to imagine unless you know some one closely or have experienced it yourself.
I really like the analogy that goes ,keep your memories green, or the old adage momentum is like a run away train, harness it and use it as vehicle to your highest good:))
Consequences as Chogyam Trungpa might say it in one of his talks may just create a further state of neurosis through conceptualizing mind games that seems to lack a sense of ones true self. and helps to cover up the real reality at hand..he lived it as many of us have and that in itself carries a lot of weight with Me:)) My sponsor Bill H used to say ,The verdict is still OuT Now follow Your Bliss...I've always liked a spooky Spiritual Slant Ha!!
Idiot compassion is the highly conceptualized idea that
you want to do good....Of course, [according to the mahayana teachings of
Buddhism] you should do everything for everybody; there is no selection
involved at all. But that doesn't mean to say that you have to be gentle
all the time. Your gentleness should have heart, strength. In order that
your compassion doesn't become idiot compassion, you have to use your
intelligence. Otherwise, there could be self-indulgence of thinking that
you are creating a compassionate situation when in fact you are feeding the
other person's aggression. If you go to a shop and the shopkeeper cheats
you and you go back and let him cheat you again, that doesn't seem to be a
very healthy thing to do for others.

pretty deep stuff, my favorite part is the hundreds of coconuts I'm dodging.

I take it you didn't hurt yourself or anyone while driving drunk?
Money can be repaid, but broken bodies are difficult to mend. Just saying.
God Bless!
Thank you
Going to jail is a pretty scary thing. I sat in a cell the night of my arrest. It was a first OWI and the system put me through the steps, even screwing things up along the way. Since I don't work, I can't drive.
You sound ready to change, to do whatever comes your way. Be sure you record somewhere (a journal, an email to yourself- whatever works for you) what happened and what is going on. It just might be what you need down the road when things get calmer and better and your disease tells you that you can handle the drink.
Hang in there.
I wish you peace.
