I was just browsing around a few other sites, and came across this one site that was of interest. Of course it was a site for singles. I am wanting to meet others in my area for freindship, and really don't know how to go about meeting people now. Can't go to bars, and wouldn't want those ones anyway. where else do you go, the library, the supermarket???? Anyway, back to the reason I wanted to post this. This site had some groups that supposedly people can voice whatever. But reading them was really wild. These people were absolutely nuts. Insulting each other and stuff. Some you could tell were fanatics about religion and things. Made me really glad to have found D.S. For me, I have found the people here very respectful, careing, sincere and genuine. I'm sure there are a few wild ones here, but I haven't met them, nor do I care to. It just made me very gratefull that we do have a place where people share honestly about real stuff. I think the founders should be very proud of themselves, and their acheivements here. And of course the people who use D.S. Thank you all. Your wonderful

Well said - the quality of members and contributions on this forum are both excellent - however this is not true to the same extent on other DS forums I have been involved in.

We are a great bunch and the vast majority have the bestest of intentions in helping and supporting others.

As I have said before I dont know where else you can get this quality of input and advice for free!

I would check yahoo or msn dating sites be honest and careful, chat on computer several times, then phone, then meet neutral site no strings. I used to live in a very small town and used these sites to meet people from city 50 miles away. Had a couple of some really good experiences and a couple of long term relationships that didn't turn permanent, but were good for quite awhile.

I came here from another forum- I was new to this "forum thing" till last year. Anyway, the other site was DEAD. You could post a question, and wait for hours to hear a response. My first post was one of deparation, from my first days of trying to get sober....Ya know when it was answered? 6 months later. Yeah, it popped up that late.

Anyway, Devon (itsmylife) was slumming on this site, and she suggested I come to DS. The rest (as they say) is history. I'm in full agreement James, DS is a great site. Lots of feedback, many viewpoints, and good friends. Thank you too.

Well, I do debate politics and religion & spirituality on Yahoo but that's not really support. I am extremely fond of so many people on this board. It has been a real inspiration for me and it keeps my toes to the fire. I am very happy to have connected with this forum in particular. We are very active, we really keep up with each other and I don't see that on many other forums. Sure, we have our moments but I think there are great people here. I've never had to do the online dating thing but I know many people who have and who have been very happy with it. One friend in particular had a certain site he went on and he liked it a lot. I'll have to see if I can jog his memory. You're a wonderful person, James. Thanks for being you.

A very good friend of mine met his wife in a Grateful Dead chatroom. Funniest thing, is that they're the most straightforward, normal couple you could meet. Funny, considering the beginnings. Anyway like Ann said, there are many people who meet online.

I like the way you guys talk too! I feel very fortunate to have come into contact with you all -- You are a great bunch of people; lets continue to scratch each others eyeballs out and apply a virtual balming salve to heal those wounds!!

No really -- you guys have helped me to stop the isolation and be human again, Thanks James, Thanks to all of you for being here and helping me to find support in recoery!!

DS has become my second family. After my miscarriage I felt so lost and one day when I was searching WebMD for some related info I came across the link and I've been here ever since.

At first I came to DS just for BiPolar Support -- that's my grave emotional and mental disorder in addition to alccoholism... I thought "Oh well, i have AA in real life; and the cyber-world for BiPolar since i dont have face-to-face bipolar groups in my town. Then I said, well-- may as well try DS" alcoholism too -- and liked it

I know what you mean about looking for people to do stuff with and I found those looking for friends sites scary. My ex left me for someone on line, so for me I'm pretty leery of that kind of net working. Maybe getting involved in a volunteer program, like relay for life or United Way, church. I find that type of net working more positive.
