Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I’ve been sober since 1998. At 5 years sober, I was in a roll-over car crash. I was given oxy, and took it for pain off and on over the next few years. At 10 years sober, I had my first back surgery. The pain was getting worse. Two years ago, as I looked at a 2nd spine surgery and coping with worse pain on a daily basis, I was told by three health professionals (who know my background) to try cannabis. I’m in Oregon, where it’s legal. It scared me to death, but the idea of oxy for life was worse.
So, today. The pot really helps, and it’s helping with ptsd and insomnia. I haven’t wanted any other substance. I told three friends in AA, and all were supportive at first. One sent me an a week later and said she thinks I’m using. It made me sad, and I feel awkward in meetings now.
I feel true to my sobriety and I don’t know what others in chronic pain (beyond aspirin) do to cope.
Peace and love.

Tomorrow is National Massachusetts Day!Have you ever lived in or visited Massachusetts? If so, tell us what's great about the Bay State!

I myself would not use pot because it was my drug of choice....and I really had everything after it telling me that I was not only addicted to it but that it created my schizophrenia.....so for me personally I will avoid that into my grave if it is Gods will.....
The worse thing we can do is feel guilty so for every decision you make that involves giving yourself a better quality of life, then make it without feeling guilty about it. Guilt is a huge trigger and triggers lead to cravings that make us want to take that drink in order to soothe that emotional pain we are feeling.
We have had medical marijuana in my state for years and I see nothing wrong with using pot for medicinal purposes and I also know a few people in AA that use pot and they have nice jobs, wonderful families and a wonderful sober lifestyle, overall, so I never judge anyone who chooses to use it.
So as we say in AA, if it works, keep coming back!
God Bless
