Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
But, absolutely, I wouldn't call your brother a drunk.
It's just another peeve, I guess.
I can't be the only one that doesn't like the term.
Whatever. If I'm an alchie, I'm a drunk.
Accept it Kate and move on with it.......
Now you have to point out the fact I'm a control freak.
I am an alcoholic. Sober. Recovered. Today. Which is all good, by me.
I have bigger worries about what people call me these days.
If someone who wasn't an alchoholic called me a drunk, now, after I've cleaned up my act, that would get to me - a lot.
My personal opinion though is a drunk is someone who stays active in their disease and is drunk all the time during that time - many alcoholics drink daily but don't get drunk - many non alcoholic get drunk but aren't drunks.
Just my 2 cents.
Peace!
I love the idea of calling myself "a drunk" as opposed to a recovering alcoholic. I feel it gets to the core of things for me. I am a very literal person, and flowery stuff for me is blech.
But not all are the same as me, and I appreciate this may cut someone too close.
But word labels in the end are just symbols point to, or away from, truth. I think we all know our own truth beyond words, and that is what I try to focus on more than semantics.
