Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I wasn't sure if I should post this here because it is not a topic on loneliness exactly though it is a recurring theme.
I'm 27 years old now and have been through a lot , to say the least. I have had mental health issues my whole life just as a start. At 20 I attempted suicide and consequently had to drop out of college because i was in a coma for 2 weeks and then subsequent rehab for a month. After that I got a great job and started college again somewhere else where I then drank for 2 years straight..my GPA remained high ( 3.8) but two years in and i hadn't been able to complete as many courses as I should have .I then had MASSIVE panic attacks , no doubt caused by alcohol , and had to drop out of that as well because of serious social anxiety as I could not leave my apartment most days. This last college was a great community college in California. Due to these horrible panic attacks I returned to live with my parents and continued doing online courses...but online courses are over and now I am enrolled at one of the best ranked university's in the world. I hope i don't f@#k this one up.
All of the people i thought were friends never talk to me and since I've dropped out so many times it was hard to keep connections. I now live in an online world because my latest degree is online and so is my part time job. This causes a deep sense of isolation.
I still struggle with alcohol ( through less than before) and still take medications as i have for the last 9 years.
I just want to be normal..I don't want my history to plague me anymore. I want to have a normal job, enjoy the pleasures that normal people do and have high hopes. I keep telling myself " How could you destroy so many good opportunities over the last 7-8 years?" " What the hell happened to me?"
I come from a good upper middle class family , I've had supportive parents both financially and emotionally speaking, I went to good schools as a teenager, I am out going , good looking and one thing i know for sure ..one of the best human beings you ll ever meet...I feel others pain and I listen. i am giving and love being able to help someone out ....why did my life go so wrong...now i try to pick up the pieces.
I just want to be happy..something I thought would come naturally but now i realize that even being happy takes hard work.
Never thought my life would have turned out this way at 18 - 19 ..
What lead me down this path...and why do I feel a nostalgia for better days..I want to be the best i can be...but where to from here..??
Only god knows
Thank you for reading .

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

Dennis
Good luck!
I wish that you find a way out of this maze. And yes, happiness is not instant coffee that's for sure. Pick up the pieces! It will be a puzzle you might enjoy to put together patiently. Why would you fail your present studies? Think of the opposite. You are an unique human being - instead of trying to be "normal" - be yourself! Accept and love yourself. Ask for professional help if you feel like you cannot beat this alone. And ask God. He loves you and He wants you to be happy. Hugs Mag
A good place to start is to do an internet for the medications you are on and alcohol side effects. Or check with your doctor about drinking on them. And if the doc says you can have a drink remember the definition of 1 drink is: For beer one drink is 12 ounces. For wine it is 5 ounces. For 80-proof whiskey it is 1 ounce. Sorry for the American measures.
You may be shocked what you find that the interplay between alcohol and the medications and should not to be mixed and making your symptoms far worse.
You probably need to be abstinent from alcohol...You may need help in doing that as Denny said. And I agree with Mags that you are being incredibly hard on yourself, you are not unique.
I too was hard on myself too as it took me 7 years to get an undergraduate degree from a good college, and I almost didn't get that. Drinking had all to do with it though I failed to see it at the time. I just felt like a total and complete failure.
I lived at home with my parents until I was 28, working part-time. Relationships fell apart, and few remaining friendships were in shambles I isolated in my room playing Atari video games (early 80s). You are not unique...
Live is so much more than this...I will be turning to you many times still.
Really thank for being there
I wonder if you have tried AA with your drinking? It was here that I learned how to live by using the programme of recovery. If you decide that's not for you, there are other groups etc that work with people whose drinking is causing them problems; other people on here use them.
Feel free to pm me if you think I can help you in any way. Best wishes, Lyn
