Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Back on the sober bus. Woo Hoo! For those who do not know me, I had joined this group in December. First time for me quitting drinking. I had done a lot of reading and thinking and realized that I was in the first stages of addiction to alcohol, and want to stop before it becomes more of a problem. I made it like 22 days, and started drinking again. I'm not going to beat myself up about my relapse. I mean, how many alcoholics successfully stopped drinking on their first attempt? Not many I bet. Feeling good to be back here, I missed you guys. I did not want to post when I was drinking.

Dick Van Dyke’s path to sobriety was a turning point in his life and career. Here’s what happened:How He Got SoberStruggles and Realization: Van Dyke began drinking as a teenager, largely to cope with shyness and social anxiety. Alcohol made him feel more comfortable in social settings, but over time, his drinking spiraled out of control. By his mid-40s, he recognized that he had an addictive...

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...

Good to have you back. I dont wish to rain on your party but do you have any plans for doing something different this time so that you dont find yourself repeating the recent drinking experience?
It's true that people can relapse quite a lot at the start of sobriety - I was one who did - but it does not have to be that way. I know quite a number of people who fared better than me in the early days.
For me staying sober long term was made possible by addressing all the underlying issues that had me thinking a drink was a good idea in the face of evidence that, for me, it really was not. It wasn't just me that was affected by my on and off the wagon behaviour, it hurt the people I really cared about too.
Any plans?
I certainly relapsed when I thought of it as a ride. It wasnt until I realized I was almost crazier when I quit drinking, than when I drank, that I knew I needed help. For me stopping wasnt the issue. it was that when I stopped, and I did often for years, I'd obsess about drinking. Just as long as I was obsessing, it was a matter of time.
Anyway, once I was beaten down by alcoholism and could admit that it was alcoholism, not just a little drinking issue...I was able to give up and get help.
I have not had that first drink since my first AA meeting on March 27th, 2011.
