Anyone here in treatment other than 12 step??

Having just joined this group a few days ago and reading the discussions it appears to me that everyone is associated with AA. Or is it that the AA members are just more active in the group?? I'm curious, having been an AA member in the past I am looking for treatments other than 12 step. Anyone here??
I am not ruling out 12 step an will most likely end up back at AA as that is our only support group in our town. And I am in no means saying that it's not a great group. Just looking for others opinions other than 12 step.

Maybe there's a very good reason why there are more AA's in recovery around than people alternative programs. What if it's because they either drink again or die and we don't?

A lot of times people who do not do AA are not in a formal group to take notice of. I know people who quit on their own and stay sober for the rest of their days. I don't suggest going it on your own though. Most need social networking - at the beginning especially.

That said, I know there are many church denominations that offer alternatives to twelve steps. Perhaps that is a route you can take?

I've been a member here for 3 years, in AA since mar h of this year.
I love my AA program and love to hear from anyone in AA or not. All recovery that works is a blessing in my opinion!

I quit on my own.

This board is dominated by AA people and people not in AA usually don't stick around. I used DS as my primary support system after I quit (along with things like exercising, reading, researching programs like SMART Recovery, Women For Sobriety and Rational Recovery.)

AA is not for me, so I chose a different path.

the only thing that really works is God. He's able and willing to help any alcoholic who believes and is willing to allow Gods' work to be done (which happens to be an AA'ish belief, but it's also in the Bible, and is verified by my own observations and experience). The particular venue that you find easiest have that happen through varies by individual, but AA seems to be a quite popular one. Us alcoholics damn sure don't have the answer on our own otherwise we wouldn't need God, AA, etc, and the medical industry openly and clearly admits that alcoholism has it stumped and has pretty much subcontracted the job out to AA, therfore I feel that I can confidently say that God is the one you're seeking. Anyhow... my own personal preferance for a treatment system is my Bible study group and common sense. I would like to try out the SInclair method someday when I get around to it, but it's not on the top of my priority list now that I seem to have found a way that I can avoid alcohol and am overall happy this way... not saying it's perfect or exactly as I want it, but it has been working for over a year now.     Is anyone here allergic to Sulfa that is currently taking Diamox? I have been diagnosed with IH now for almost 2 years. I am allergic to Sulfa drugs meaning that my throat will swell up so my Neurologist put me on Topamax. I was suffering from major loud whoosing noises and the topamax helped that but everyday I still hear those mainly between 6 - 12 pm. I am at my wits end and have not went...
