Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Hi! I am very new to this, it is quite scary. I have rarely talked about my life with an alcoholic drug user to anyone and it's been 25 yrs of mental exhaustion. My husband has been an alcoholic pretty much his whole life and also drug use probably for the past 3-5 years. I feel like I'm addicted to the addict. I isolate myself and I don't want to anymore. I have no friends left. My whole focus is on what he's doing. My gosh, last week he went to pick up dinner and I didn't hear from him for four days! I used to drive around at all hours of the night looking for him like a crazy person - I've told myself I would stop doing that. It would never get me anywhere anyway. He was m.i.a again for 3 days - I was so worried I tracked him down yesterday morning at a crack house with drug paraphanelia everywhere. I dont even know what drug it was. It was a black substance on pieces of tin foil beside it was a long clear tube (?heroin, ?meth) I've never seen anything like it. I will never go back to that place - ever! It was such a sad sight (of course he denied, denied that he was doing any of it). Alcoholics and addicts must really think we're stupid. He has lost almost everything and I feel like I've lost my sanity. We sold our house a few mo's ago. We both ended up with substantial equity thank goodness we split it 50/50. My half is in my bank account. I fear he'll walk through his tens of thousands of dollars in no time and have nothing left. Right now I'm worrying if he's ok, is he warm, is he hungry - I want to be able to not even care. I have gone to work so many times on zero sleep because i've been worrying about him all night long. Quite often I would come home at the end of the day and there he is sleeping like a baby after his binge. It would infuriate me! I care deeply for him, I think that's why it hurts so bad. I can't fix him. I don't even know if I can fix myself. It feels good to finally be open about this. I could actually write a book and I think it would sell great- I'd call it my life of insanity :)

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

Addiction has been called a family disease because each immediate family member is affected in a negative way, as you can see! You need alot of support for yourself and Alanon is a great place to find that support.

I started my own life. I asked my alcoholic wife, if she would like to go to a concert or to the movies with me. She always said "No". I went by myself and had a great time. I went shopping and decided to be good to myself. I asked the clerk to gift wrap it for me. I opened the gift, when I go home and thanked myself. I stated taking care of things rather then avoiding them.
I signed up for adult education classes, where I slowly made friends and slowly built up a social life. I went to the nude beach, I never felt so free in my life. My therapist told me to do something exciting. When I came to the next session, I told him that I jumped out of a plane in a tandem parachute jump. Oh my wife complained a lot. I just let it go in one ear and out the other. I didn't bother arguing.
Eventually, I learned what love is and what love is not. My wife slept in a separated room, because she hated me..I got divorced. I had to pay alimony and lost a lot financially from the divorce. Was it worth it? OH! YES! I love the new me.
You might be in too deep to get our on your own. I really think seeing a good therapist would be an excellent investment in the rest of your life.
I suggest you leave him immediately and send him to a facility like https://fherehab.com/location/alcohol-rehab-deerfield. You don’t need to expect that he would be able to change overnight even if he receives professional help. That’s why you need to end this relationship and try to focus on yourself more. You have given him enough time of your life, and now it’s time for you.
