Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I am not saying that I enjoy smoking, in fact I dont. It's costly, it smells bad, it's a health issue and I don't like being around others that smoke -
i see no problem in bringing an "off topic" issue to the board - bottom line addiction is addiction whether it be to alcohol, drugs, food, cigarettes, cigars, gambling or sex - like many others it's a physical and mental addiction. Many many drinkers are smokers and many begin to smoke more after they stop drinking and many stop smoking after they stop drinking.
It doesn't bother me that you bring this topic up on the board - and yes it's a killer and nasty one at that - WHEN (and one day I will) i decide to stop - you will be one of the first to know so you can stay on my ass about not smoking -
btw - BBH - drinking is also a personal decision -
Peace!
Everybody have a great day.
It's hard to deney that cigarettes are an addiction for some. Those who have quit drinking and still smoke have to be mindful the same way people who must take potential addictive medications must be mindful.
Recovery isn't a simple straight forward follow just one manuel deal!
major lol's....
BBH, all I'm really saying is that tobacco should be treated like any other drug addiction. To the extent doing coke in the parking lot before the meeting is an outside issue, so is tobacco.
Just wondering -- Is there anyone here who smokes who isn't addicted to them?
I quit smoking years before I quit drinking. For me, quitting smoking was harder that first week -- I wanted a cigarette nonstop from the moment I woke up. When I quit drinking I was okay in the mornings. Plus when I quit drinking I already knew I could do it. I quit smoking successfully -- no reason I couldn't quit drinking as well. And just as the desire to smoke has disappeared, the desire to drink for me is also gone.
Smoking and drinking were intertwined for me. When I was a smoker, the cigarettes I most wanted were when I was drinking, even though I knew I'd get a firggin horrible hangover if I smoked a lot while drinking.
Yes, I know I can do it and now that I am going to the gym, changing my eating habits and attempting at maintaining my health it's all gonna be for not, if I don't stop smoking. Also, it would make my daughter so happy, she's been begging me since she was a young child to stop.
She was clearly an overcomer and this would just be the "next thing" in her progress as a human being.
I am an ex smoker, quit way long ago, way before I was drinking and never picked up a cigarette when I was drinking. I smoked more when I drank/smoke at the same time. So go figure.
I know I need to quit, but I don't want to quit. That is why I still smoke. Plain and simple.
When the want becomes greater than the need, then I will be able to put the cigarettes down.
