Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I'm a member of AA and owe my life to it.
But some of the people here turn me off of AA. I think, "What an asshole!? Thank god that person is not in my home group!"
AA has a 3% success rate. People quitting on their own do slightly better -- about 10%. AA is actually detrimental. It's not because the AA program of recovery does not work, it is because the AA program of recovery is a secret in AA. First the newcomer has to wade through all the personalities. Only in AA will one find people who were once urinating on themselves in the gutter suddenly catapulted by their overgrown egos into saviors of mankind and pontificators of Truth.

What happened to "we know but a little"?
In my AA experience the singular most valuable lesson has been humility. I used to know everything. Now, I am pretty certain I don't know squat.
But I do know a puffed up, self-righteous alcoholic when I see one! And my perennial question is, "If you know so much, what are you doing in AA? Surely you a better than a bunch of drunks swilling coffee in a church basement?"

urinating has been compensated by the germie squirts dispensers that have been installed everywhere......i should have seen it coming and invested lol
i have found....a rule of thumb......judge self and methods before judging others and theirs.
life is not so difficult..............it is the actions that muddy the waters.
You don't sound like yourself. How harshly I judge others is a direct reflection of how harshly I judge myself.
The holidays have been stressful for me this year. I hope the season finds you doing well.
The only time I would look down on another alcoholic is to pick them up.

The one thing that is certain is that this is the place you will surely find these two types of alcoholics.
Of course, there are many more types of alcoholics, all of us fall into one category or another and that is what makes up the mosaic structure of any group.
The bell shape curve is science's gift to understanding group formulation.
In Step 10 it states that we cease have ceased fighting anyone and anything-even alcohol. If tghis is the true AA mantra that we come to live by it means that we look for understanding in things and avoid blame at all costs. We need to live in reality and nearer to our Higher Power as a result.

I agree with what you are saying about attract rather than promote. It is very important that we speak civilly to the new person. They need help, not criticism... That is unless they are trying to be a-holes.
