Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Dennis
In some programs anyone who uses their brain supposedly has an offensive attitude.

No one ever asked me to give my will to invisible spirits. As I have a non-theistic approach to higher power, no one insisted that I define God. A more left-brained, "laws of nature" work just fine, as it has more to do with cause and effect. I adhere to the laws of nature, I do the work and the results come. Those laws are certainly beyond my control, and so as a greater power, whatever, it works for me. While it's not necessarily part of my recovery model, am not ruling out a 3rd party higher power. While doubting it, who am I with my limited raw knowledge and relatively small brain to say for sure there's absolutely for sure no such decision-making Higher power. "Come on God, pick the Patriots to win the Super Bowl!" I still have a hard time with, "Ask Him to remove my defects of character", but that's just where I'm at, it wasn't a show-stopper for me. I believe more in work, not magical gifts from a anthropomorphic dude.
Otherwise, Recovery in 12 steps groups is way easier and happier for me than it ever was when I did it all alone with no method, and no support.
Don't get lost in semantics or pre-conceived definitions that bring up negative reactions in you. Not necessary to be a theist. Not even necessary for you to go to 12 step groups, but if it's working for others, it isn't necessary for you to insult them about it. If you think you're being helpful, with constructive criticism, ok, I'll have to reexamine my semantics on the term, "helpful."

I can see if you'd be all mad because you were court ordered to go to AA, but otherwise, it's a great thing there are other programs that courts find acceptable which work for some people. I've heard good things about Smart Recovery too, and Refuge Recovery. Both of which are accepted by courts.
If you don't think you need any "recovery program", or attitude adjustment because you're actually happy, cool. I think there's lots of 12 steppers in this forum who would rather you keep that kind of happiness to yourself. But whatever, it's an open forum, you've stimulated thought. Hopefully you haven't discouraged people from being open-minded and saving their lives through (semantics aside) a pretty open-to-interpretation-path.
I forget his name, but I sure miss the guy who's avitar was a man with a camera taking a picture. He would really take you to task. It would be fun to watch.
A lot of people in AA aren't following the Big Books instructions all the way....which is a good thing. The book itself has some pretty dangerous, outdated opinions.
