Hello everyone,
I am a 29yr old woman with a severe alcohol addiction who has just been informed by an E.R. doctor that if I don't stop drinking, I will be "on a transplant list soon and dead in 2 years".
I am ready to stop. I am so scared and so ashamed of what I've done to myself.
Stats: I usually drink anywhere from a liter to a liter and a half of wine everyday, all day. Sometimes I have shots of vodka too.
I have been drinking since I was 18, but it's been so much more out of control since I was 25.
The effects that brought me to the E.R. include:
I have lost close to 100 lbs over the past 2years without trying
No appetite because I drink too much
The whites of my eyes have began to yellow at the bases
My skin is super thin
When I bruise or get cut it takes me so much longer to heal than it should
Extreme depression and anxiety
Thinning of my hair
All of these are due to my diminished liver function...
The doctor said I have a small window of opportunity to turn this around, but I need to stop now.
Now, I can't go cold turkey as I am waaaay too afraid of extreme withdrawal.
I also don't want to use a benzoid-based detox program...they gave me Librium at the E.R. and I couldn't take the side-effects.
I want to taper at home and I'm just looking for some advice...maybe someone has even done this before?
I found this article http://mnalternatives.com/how-taper-off-alcohol.html and was going to attempt to follow this schedule.
Also, I have a dr. apt. on Nov. 5, and I thought that if I could finish this taper before my apt. it would be better than if I did nothing productive for the next 4 days...I'm just so scared to not try to make some sort of progress...I mean, what does "soon" mean? To me, it means NOW.
I am on day one of my taper today...so far so good, I was just hoping to get some different insights maybe....
Thanks for any help!

So mad at Xfinity! They're trying to charge me $115 per month for the same service I had been paying $50 the last four years. I took the equipment to UPS for shipping and cancelled my subscription today! Next door was a cookie shop called Crumbl. I had heard of it before but never went in until today. I don't need one more sugar fix, but maybe it will help with my sad) grieving heart....$15...

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

There are alot of people willing to help you dry out immediately which will add years to your life, so please don't e afraid to ask for it! Detox and AA are gifts from God as are other sources of help.
God Bless!

Got back from the doctor's and got some really promising news/advice as he reviewed my bloodwork taken at the E.R. on 10.29.14 in-depth with me. While my liver enzymes are way too elevated (this I knew), he said my kidney/pancreas functions are normal (yay!), and recommended a few dif. supplements and an exercise plan.
At this point I'm also very anemic, so he addressed how to rectify this.
As far as my taper goes, he seemed very positive about where I was and how many days it took. I am really anxious/excited about my first day of sobriety tomorrow.
I can never thank you all enough for all of the strength you gave me this week. U're all amazing people and thank you again!

That is wonderful news! But I hate to be the bearer of bad news -- the worst is yet to come. Getting off of alcohol is bad enough. I've had quite a few episodes of withdrawing. I would rather be dead than do it again. Staying sober is the hard part.
Please get some outside help. Go to AA or some other support group. And of course, come back here. It seems to be helping you and that's great. We're a bunch that understands your pain.
For me quitting was awful, but it was also exciting and empowering. I finally was able to get out from underneath the overwhelming need to drink and drink and drink. A HUGE accomplishment. Scary too. Would I be able to stay quit? Would I be able to make it through the cravings and desire? Yes! And you can do this too.
I can't wait to hear all about tomorrow -- your first sober day!
Hope and pray you can beat the odds, good luck and God Bless!
Ask yourself if you understand that: alcohol is just a symptom?
Oh just a little tip. Alcohol is sugar. When that craving hits get a chocolate shake PRONTO! A coke. A snickers. The sugar is sometimes enough to make it thru. If it hits real bad Call a sober friend and talk about it. Somehow by sharing it , cravings pass faster. .
Best in your journey.
