Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

One thing I discovered when I stopped drinking, was the magic of sobriety and of the 12 steps in general. Things happened, I cannot explain. It's almost like somebody upstairs is pulling some strings for my benefit and, as a result, I always seem to get what I need, not what I want but what I need.
Just as an example, I am self employed and as we all know, it can be up and down. I may be burried one week but not sell a thing for the next two weeks. I was behind on a bill, and decided to go to a meeting, came home and checked my sales out or curiosity and had made enough to cover the bill which was $160 I think.
I was thinking about that yesterday and remembered it was all explained in "God's Promises" and I looked in my book for it but couldn't find it. It almost drove me crazy trying to find because I wanted to read it again.
I hadn't been to a meeting in several months so I went last night. It was one of those things where I felt I had to go but didn't know why. I got to the church where the meetings were held downstairs, said hello to a few people I recognized and sat down.
The guy who was asked to chair came over to talk to the guy sitting across from me and spoke to him. Before the chairman left he looked at me and asked if I would be willing to read from his paper when called upon so I smiled and said "sure".
So he hands me the paper and the title of it was "God's Promises"!
Stuff like that happens to me all the time! Now I know why those trying to quit want what we have. You just need to go to an AA meeting and here stories like this.

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

The promises will come true if you work for them
I found them online and wanted to reprint them here for the benefit of those who are struggling and those who do not use AA will also find them beneficial as well.
If we are painstaking about this phase of our development, we will be amazed before we are half way through. We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness. We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it. We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace. No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others. That feeling of uselessness and selfpity will disappear. We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows. Self-seeking will slip away. Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change. Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us. We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us. We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves.
Are these extravagant promises? We think not. They are being fulfilled among ussometimes quickly, sometimes slowly. They will always materialize if we work for them.
God Bless
