Hi, I'm Ayla and I am an alcoholic, sober by the Grace of God. I haven't had a drink since October 20, 2007, and I have been completely sober since I last abused Norco six months ago to the day on January 20.
I have been in AA for 28 years, but for a long time I kept relapsing on the alcohol after a year or two sober, and then my doctors introduced me to pain pills. Well, that lasted a few years, but it is all over with now.
I have a great sponsor, and I go to meetings online, because I am the caregiver for my parents, and I get to the occasional ace to face meeting. I have lots and lots of recovery literature, and I love it.
Like I said, I am clean AND sober six months to the day, and I am grateful. All of the promises in the Big Book have come true for me, except when I get depressed, but then they come right back again when I adjust my thinking.
So that's me in a nutshell, will be nice getting to know all of you.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...
I can vouch for everything you said! All the promises are coming true for me as well and I am happier now then I have ever been!
My drug of choice is actually vicodin but I started drinking when I coudn't find any more pills! The 12 steps of AA saved my life! That was 7 years ago.
Welcome to the group and I hope you will be a contributor here as well. Sounds like you have alot to offer us.

I use AA and also Smart recovery to stay sober. I found Smart online when I was battling agoraphobia, they have a website at smartrecovery.org, with a forum, meetings and chat rooms. The approach of SMART is different than the 12 steps, using a whole different set of concepts. It helped me to help myself when I had a hard time with agoraphobia a couple of years ago and I couldn't get out to meetings.
I also go to Intherooms.com for meetings and fellowship. I met my sponsor there three years ago. It's another great site with a lot of friendly people.

Welcome!!! Well done on dealing with many difficult things, and juggling so many balls successfully. While AA and SMART do take differing approaches they can be complementary not necessarily adversarial as you stated so eloquently...
6 months is a long time for an alcoholic. Good for you Ayla, I hope to hrar more from you soon..
