Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I am new to the group after finally this weekend admitting to myslef I have a problem with alchohol. Last straw for me was the dui I received Thursday night and having to have my Husband come pick me up at 4am.
I never considered myself to have a problem because I did not need alcohol everyday. However, it's always been my crutch for dealing with anxiety, stress and depression and that little part in my brain that should tell me enough is enough does not seem to work. Especially, when it comes to wine.
Right now, I am feeling ashamed and embarrassed of my actions. On top of that, I am a Mother to a 4 year old boy who I need to set a good example for. I want to crawl in a hole until this whole thing is over, but I know it's not going to get me anywhere.
Social drinking has been a huge thing for me and this weekend, we have a family cookout where I will be surrounded by alcohol. In fact, any event I attend most days has alcohol, unless it's a childrens event. I am afraid that I will not be strong enough to decline a drink because right now I am feeling the stress.
I have found encouragement by reading eveyone's posts on here today!

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

It's a good thing to keep in mind that it is important to set a good example like you said. I know I had many problems as a result of my parents drinking and it took me 30 years to learn to let it go and to forgive.
I didn't have kids for my motivation but I almost died and that was all I needed to motivate me to get better.
I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Please vow to stay sober for the sake of your family and do everything you need to do to make that happen. There is happiness in sobriety. I am evidence of that along with many others here and I am happier now then I have ever been. If we can do it, so can you!
God Bless
I was headed down that dark path too. For years I mostly drank beer...lots of it. But more recently, the demon inside wasn't satisfied with the buzz, and I started in on wine. That's when the real problems began. It always ended with me passing out, and having long blank spots in my memory of the night before. Waking up to wine spills, broken glasses, ruined dinners.....the list goes on and on. Then one Thursday night for some reason I came home with a bottle of vodka. A big one. The sick day off the next day from work and the world-class hangover was my '2x4 upside the head moment'. I saw where this was going. By the grace of God and the angel watching over me, I didn't get a DUI, or have an accident, or hurt anyone (at least not physically), but if you keep tempting the fates it will catch up with you. That 'morning after from hell' led me to web searching which led me to this site and to this wonderful group of supportive people.
I think that last vodka binge was one of the best things to ever happen to me, because it convinced me to quit drinking forever, not just for a while. Today is day 90 for me, and I am loving my new life!!
Don't give up on yourself, Sam. You can do this!!!!!! Once you get past the very rough first few days, life gets so much better!!!! You won't recognize the new, energetic you!!!!!
