Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

You are very welcome to the DS forum. First of all, in order to receive more replies, it may be better for you to start a new thread rather than posting in an existing one but the important thing is that you are here now and hopefully you will find something of value here.
Asking for support is a big step so that is a positive start. Very often, alcoholics do not fully appreciate how serious the problem is or they may not want to think about it too much and this stops them from receiving the necessary help. While internet forums such as DS are good and useful, in many cases, it takes face to face support and Alcoholics Anonymous is a good place to find that support.
This can be an exciting but stressful time for your wife and yourself and I understand how you feel because I was in a similar position many years ago. I am now enjoying seeing my young grandson growing up but I missed out a lot on my own children’s childhood years because I was drinking so much at the time. I hope that you will not make the same mistake that I made and that you can enjoy the experience of parenthood.
This is a stressful time for your wife and she needs to concentrate fully on her own health and that of your child. Some men in this sort of situation can feel neglected and left out and sometimes act like babies, throwing the toys out of the pram. Therefore, the first thing to bear in mind is that it is your wife who is pregnant. You will need to make allowances for her mood swings etc. and bite your tongue at times.
Alcoholics are people who have become obsessed with drinking and will always find reasons to drink. Therefore, it could be said that it is not your wife who is causing you to drink - you may just be using her as a convenient excuse to get drunk.
Take a look at the video at the link below as it explains alcoholism very well.
