Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Im at 3 weeks alcohol free and today is just too much for me to take. I want to get out of work, get a fifth and be done with it. I see all these posts of people being sober for so long and I want to be like that, but I just don't have the strength. I can feel myself sinking. I'm tired of having all this weight on my shoulders I just want to feel some relief even if it's for a little bit. All my anger is building and I don't see a good outcome.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

There is something else better to do other than getting a fifth after work, I promise...

I have an underlying mental condition and calling the doctor in times of emotional upheaval and taking it from there helps me...
You made it through a tough night and are stronger for it. I hope you feel good about yourself today -- you should. Good action and follow-through.
You know how tough it is to quit and how rough the first few weeks are. Do you really want to go through that again? That is what you are facing if you decide to pick up a drink. You mention wanting to drink because you feel the weight of the world on your shoulders. Drinking won't remove that weight but add guilt and self defeat to it.
I hope you can find some happiness in your accomplishment and joy in a day not twisted by drunkenness.
Try not to think too far ahead and be overcome with anxiety. When I was in those situations, I would take a deep breath, relax, and ask my Higher Power for help. I would ask for a sign, just anything to know my prayer was being heard and you know what?.....I always got one!
God Bless!
One day at a time sometimes one hour at a time.

It can be difficult but try to learn to love yourself and treat yourself well. Yes, it can take practice but practice makes perfect.

I heard something in early sobriety that helped alott. Please really contemplate this. Its easier to sit here sober wanting a drink (for me it meant sitting in the rooms of AA wanting to drink) than to sit drinking dying to get sober.
early sobriety is hard hard hard. So accept that and do things to help. like eat when you are hungry, drink liquids, go for walks, talk to other alcoholics, share here alott and everything that needs to come out will.
Hang in there. Its the easier softer way.
I too wanted to drink until I got a new solution to life. I stopped drinking and I had to feel the feelings I had been escaping from. It was torture!
HALT...hungry, angry, lonely, tired. I had to beware of them all in early sobriety.
My route...the 12 step program available in the rooms of AA. Others have done it by different methods here,
Pleased you were able to get home and not stop. Today I am so glad I don't have to live that way, thanks to the 12 step program.
I looked at the bottle and could smell the alcohol and all i could think was YUCK!!! the smell and the thought of what it tasted like made me sick to my stomach. the last time I drank I had a terrible hangover, I was sick to my stomach, so the actual smell of it made me feel sick again. I told my husband I think I finally made it through the worst of my cravings and I actually can say I believe it now! I have everyone here to thank for giving me that extra boost of encouragement!
