Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I had 3 days of sobriety a couple of days ago.
I practiced the breathing techniques, I started picking up my artistic hobbies again, and I started to journal about my past. It was tough...but I really felt that I was breaking through to something!
This lasted for a couple of days. It may not seem like awhile, but that was the longest I had been sober and happy for awhile.
A couple of days ago, I was cleaning out my room. I had no alcohol, and although I was using amazing coping techniques, I still felt sick. I found a bottle of Morphine 60 MGs. I tried. I really tried to throw it out. I couldn't.
To my dismay, the morphine hardly works on me. But I still have found it to be somewhat of a relief.
When I wake up in the morning, I not only get sick, but I get SO agitated and angry for no reason. Like, I will snap at anyone or anything in my way. Just because I can. And it makes me feel like I'm turning into my violent Father who was an alcoholic. (And caused so much distress in my life.)
I know I'll eventually run out of that bottle. And when I do, I'll be forced to get sober again. But I wanted to post that I actually had achieved some sobriety, because I felt like everyone here thought I was a bit of a lost cause. IT CAN BE DONE. And I will get sober soon. I'm trying my hardest. Just keep sending positive vibes and thoughts!

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

Good for you for demonstrating that you can be sober. You'll get there!!
Have you thought about a medical detox? It will help you get through the worst of detoxing with assistance in a safe place.
My drug of choice was narcotic pain killers which I got addicted to after taking them for legitimate reasons. They turned me into a different person and I found myself doing things I never would have done otherwise, like trying to get them from illegal sources, as my tolerance grew. When I couldn't find any more pills, is when I began drinking.
One of the things that triggered my drinking and drugging was ptsd which was treated while I was in outpatient treatment.
I can't help but think that the childhood trauma you suffered may be triggering your drinking, especially if it was never treated.
I hope you can get your priorities figured out so you can live a happy and healthy life.
God Bless
One day things will be good, and I will get my priorities in order. Hopefully sooner, rather than later. Thank you for sharing your experience and empathy.
I will say that you have helped me. My mom too made me to be sick and I guess its munchessun by proxy. I was born after she had a miscarriage so I guess she was just worried I would not live as well. I have found much help from working with another Alchies to talk about these things. It's not fun but to deal with issues I didn't even know were there is a big step.
I thought I drank for the fun but I drank for the fog

Sending more hugs your way.
I have been 5 yrs without booze or drugs. It's a great life. I have been asked to go on a trip to China. Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet. I am seriously thinking of going. Give sobriety a chance. Get off the narcotics. They work this same as booze. You take them to escape reality. You don't like the emotions that pop up in sobriety. Eventually they become less and less. Those big mood swings that you have will disappear.
This takes time. Stick with it. I was able to do it without medical. treatment.
