Let me just say that I'm 24 hours again. Last night's meeting was great. Another 1st step meeting - 2 young girls came in and one was clearly drunk. It kinda offended me, actually. I hope some of our words sank in. Anyway, my question:

I'm going to ask a woman to be my sponsor. She is 3 years sober. I'm not sure she has a sponsor. How do I ask her to be mine? Is there something official done? Do people know?

The point being is that you ask. Asking someone to be your sponsor is a very good step in the humility process. Once yoju guys get hooked up you'll find out if she is a good sponsor. Going through the book and the steps with you.If you guys dont see eye to eye no one ever said you have to marry your sponsor. If she doesnt return calls and is hard to reach you really need somene to be available to you in your early sobriety. Just humble yourself and ask. You can go from there. Greg

Ditto what Greg said! I was "given" a temporary sponsor in my third meeting. She was / is a wonderful person but wasnt right for me. She did help me a great deal and I'm still sober today so I'm so grateful.
I looked out, and listened, and then asked a woman to be my sponsor. It was humbling for sure. She is fantastic, she has a sponsor, she has other sponsees....and I'm grateful. She walked me through the steps and we meet on a weekly basis most weeks.

Don't be disheartened if she says no. It's alot of time and responsibility to being a sponser and few people want that or are ready for it, I should say.

I asked 3 or 4 people who all turned me down and the sponser I currently have, approached me and offered to sponser me and I have had him for 4 years now.

He really helped me out, especially in the beginning.

Its good to hear you liked the meeting .And feeling uncomfortable around someone drinking I would say you are not the only one whether in an AA meeting or not. But as someone said it is AA and it will happen from time to time but not a lot well thats how I have found it.

The secretary of the meeting or and older sober member osm will normally assist the person drinking.


I could give you my experience but this just about covers that its a little bit on sponsorship I hope it helps .

    check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

     I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...
