Hiya Folks
Here's a little note of optimism for a Monday, I am 2 years sober today and feeling great.
I've saved just over £4000 on that legalised poison and probably added x amount of days onto my life.
We so don't need alcohol folks.
Have a great day.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

I heard a research scientist say that a cure for addiction will probably happen in the next generation or so. That'd be awesome.
In the meantime, we have to do it the old fashioned way.
Abstinence. Just Quit. Easier said than done; but it can be done!

God Bless
A gentle reminder though....don't get hung up on #3....just go for 2 years and one day.
Let the subsequent 364 come as they may.
My day count is something north of 7,500. My sobriety is old enough to buy a drink!
Eventually the version of you who drank will become so distant from your daily experience that you will scarcely remember who they were.
may the force be with you
I'm blown away with all your congratulatory posts thank y'all so much
I forgot to add, my lenghthiest spell of sobriety (Jan 1997 > July 2002) was 5 & 1/2 yrs so I've got a way to go yet to equal that.
I'm really happy to have found this site and I'm looking fwd to following this sober journey with y'all.

BUT
you also know how slippery it can get when life gets complicated.
If you don't mind my asking, how did it slip out of your grasp 16 years ago?

Hiya Pieter, yes I let 5 & 1/2 yrs of sobriety slip out of my grasp, what happened was, back in July 2002 my Wife & I were on holiday in the Costa del Sol and it was carnival day in the local town.
The day started with a beach party and the scene was absolutely idyllic, sea, sun, sand, music, hundreds of happy Spanish peeps dancing on the beach & enjoying themselves, it was hot but with a breeze, there were stalls on the beach cooking roasted sardines and other barbecue food, I so much wanted to be part of it all.
We had just rented 2 sun loungers & parasols and we made ourselves comfortable although I just wanted to join the beach party, my Wife meanwhile was deeply into reading a romantic novel. Out of nowhere the owner of the sun lounger rental company appeared and gave me 2 plastic beakers full of Sangria, I gave 1 to my Wife who was engrossed in reading her book and I looked at my Sangria and thought "what do I do with this?", I looked at the beach party in full swing then I looked at the Sangria and I drank it all down, it went straight to my head and within 30 mins I was in a beach bar drinking cold lager. I didn't suddenly become a raving drunkard on that day in fact after a couple of cold lagers at the beach bar I didn't drink again that day, we enjoyed the carnival day/evening/night immensely, we made friends with a Spanish couple ( I speak some Spanish ) and we spent the afternoon & evening & all through the night at the carnival with Raphael & Josefina and the 4 of us sat on the sea front at Fuengirola at 4am the following morning watching the sun come up as we all eat ice-cream
Later in the holiday I said to my Wife that I wanted to drink again but strictly under control ( who was I kidding?? )
When we got home after our holiday I drank again and slowly slowly slowly my drinking spiralled out of control, I've had spells of sobriety since of varying durations, a month here 6 months there etc. So yes, it was that drink of Sangria on the beach that ended my 5 & 1/2 year run of sobriety.
I'm 2 years and 1 day dry today and yes, I'm not thinking of forever, I'm thinking each day,
" today I'm not going to drink "
Thanks for listening folks, have a great day.
