Agoraphobia & Social Anxiety Support Group
Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder, often precipitated by the fear of having a panic attack in a setting from which there is no easy means of escape. As a result, sufferers of agoraphobia may avoid public and/or unfamiliar places. In severe cases, the sufferer may become confined to their home, experiencing difficulty traveling from this "safe place."
Why do people scare the hell out of me?

Hey all,
I'm in a bind. I've been trying to overcome social anxiety my entire life. Initially, thought I was just shy, but as time went by I realized it was much more serious than that. I will be in a situation, that involves more than 2 people and suddenly become an incoherent, inarticulate idiot. I become the blonde in all those blond jokes and I'm not even blonde. I swear people think I have some kind of developmental disorder. At other times, I need gallons of water to wash the foot out of my mouth.
It has negatively affected every area of my life, work is difficult because it's impossible for people to take me seriously. Relationships are hard. It's pretty much hell. I hate that people think I'm an idiot and the opposite is true. As a result I'm usually doing the Lion's share of the work and coworkers take the credit because I can't speak up.
Can you guys relate? At my wit's end over here. Drop me a line

I can relate, sometimes when in social situations I'll open my mouth and it's impossible for anything to come out and I just look stupid. Or people will be talking and they'll look to me and I hate the thought that they might think I'm rude etc.

Ammaray, you are not alone. I can definitely relate.

Totally relate. If I'm with too many people or people I don't know, I clam up to the point where people begin asking me if I'm ok. LOL I get scared and self-conscious. The thought of dating and meeting someone's friends and relatives terrifies me. I continue working on myself. You aren't alone.

You're definitely on the right track by being here anmaray. DS is a great site. I've been struggling with anxiety and depression since my late teens. I have paranoia as a result of my anxiety, and my doctor suspects I may have haphephobia. I understand that trying to live normally every day can be a struggle but please know that there are people out there and here who know what you're going through and can help you through it.

I can relate, I think I usually come off as being rude. When someone invites me to something even to a movie I decline. At first I just thought I wasn't very good at socializing but now I've been diagnosed with agoraphobia. I don't like to go out and about unless it's outdoors but even then I start to get anxiety.

I do know how you feel. I have axierty too. I do not like be around a lot of people. I know it can be hard at time. Just try to relax and talk about something you know about. If you get too nevous you can leave the room for a few minute and then go back in when you feel that you are ready again to talk or to listen.

On Saturday, while I was at yard sales with my best friend, my lawn guy texted me that he did my lawn. This costs me $70 every two weeks or so. I don't have great grass so sometimes, he skips. Anyway, I paid him on CashApp when I got home. On Sunday morning, he texted me again, to say goodbye because he was moving. My little thinking cap went on and I thought about how I am healthier...
