Agoraphobia & Social Anxiety Support Group
Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder, often precipitated by the fear of having a panic attack in a setting from which there is no easy means of escape. As a result, sufferers of agoraphobia may avoid public and/or unfamiliar places. In severe cases, the sufferer may become confined to their home, experiencing difficulty traveling from this "safe place."

so i have been suffering from social phobia for quite a few years now, and i am tried of hiding indoors all the time. i just hate going outside by myself, i dont have any friends due to this fact. the only time i go anywhere is when i can convince a drinking buddy to come over and after about 6-8 beers i have the courage to leave. then its to the bar and drinking until i am intoxicated. then its off to the store to buy more beer and then home to smoke a little of natures finest, then off to bed when i cant keep my head up. so yea, this has been my life for the past few years. i lost someone very dear to me and since then i have been a caveman hiding out and i guess waiting to die. i hate myself and life, now that she is gone i dont feel any reason to live.

sorry to hear how bad it is for u and how u need to medicate yourself with booze.....break ups r very painful and can really do a number on someone like us. have u ever gone to a dr and try going on meds? they can really help. when i was 23 i was downing beer first thing in the morning just to give me the courage to get out of the house and walk in my bad neighborhood. my bf at the time said i had a problem and dumped my booze down the sink. he really made me think and i went looking for help and got it.when i had break ups i use to feel just like u do right now. now i'm asuming u had a break up or has this person pass away? let me just say there is always hope, and things can change when u least exspect them to......i live long enough to know that my phobia's keep changing. i have had a good 20 good years now.....there r some things i can do now i thought for sure i'd never be able to do.....i say at my age,,,,give it time, and seriously think of going on meds....you feel like it's the end of your world right now, but give it time this too shall pass.......trust me i know how u feel.....my ex h. killed himself in 1999 and every time something awful like that happen to me i'd go backwards, but i'm so glad i got help and worked it out......u will get better, but u must take the time to heal the lost, stop beating yourself.....and please keep posting and let us know how your doing...

i dont know if this is progress but i decided that i cant sit still inside anymore. so i started my own exercise program, riding a bike indoors and started to change my diet as well. this might not help my phobia, but i think after a while my energy will return and possibly i might look into seeing a counselor.

Seeing a counselor would be a good thing. Exercise reduces stress and that's always a good thing, but it would probably even be more beneficial if you could do it outside or maybe even a gym. No where is too small to start. Not even around the block.

please reconsider chemicals. i used alcohol for 20 years to cover my fears about loss. i have lost a lot of people close to me and i have always had a vulnerability to anxiety because of it. alcohol is a depressant and it raises the chance of having a panic attack the next day. its a cycle that gets worse. i was there and it was horrible. i wish you the best.

you need to stop drink beer. drink beer do not help you with your prouble. drink beer can just get youin trouble. you should just take your time on going outside. you should try to gooutside and stand there for a minute and then maybe the next day you could add more minute to it. rember do not do too much at one time. baby step. i hope things get better for you. hugs

I agree with the others on the great advice. Beer is a depressant that feels good at the time but then you feel worse the next day. i am working on the same problem now and have cut back to a few drinks a day and make myself wait till about 8 or 9 so I don't drink all day. Not drinking all together is easier said than done..but cutting back slowly has worked for me and of course exercise is amazing. Like InVivo said it is probably a good idea to get a gym membership. It might be scary at first but then it will feel awesome and you might even meet a nice workout partner. Life is great and keep posting!

well i have decided to only drink once a week, during football season, usually during the games. i do sit on my front porch from time to time, so i do get outside, i just dont go anywhere. i dont have the money to buy a membership at a gym, i can only afford used workout stuff. thats why i stay at home.

On Saturday, while I was at yard sales with my best friend, my lawn guy texted me that he did my lawn. This costs me $70 every two weeks or so. I don't have great grass so sometimes, he skips. Anyway, I paid him on CashApp when I got home. On Sunday morning, he texted me again, to say goodbye because he was moving. My little thinking cap went on and I thought about how I am healthier...
