Agoraphobia & Social Anxiety Support Group
Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder, often precipitated by the fear of having a panic attack in a setting from which there is no easy means of escape. As a result, sufferers of agoraphobia may avoid public and/or unfamiliar places. In severe cases, the sufferer may become confined to their home, experiencing difficulty traveling from this "safe place."

I am doing the same thing.
I think my triggers are different though. I am so lonely that it upsets me to see others with a normal relationship.
So i avoid social places where there will be couples. I also get very depressed if a friend tells me what a great time his date was or something to that effect.
But yes, I understand what you are feeling.
So I gave up doctors gave up friends and finally gave up my family as much as I could. Its painful when the ones you love treat you as less so i had to distance them to protect myself.
I understand when you say you just give excuses and hide and avoid your family and friends...who wants to feel the constant prying misunderstanding eyes??
I also shunned my friends and only leave my house but 3 to 4 x a month.I always think people see me as less of a human being..like it's stamped on my forehead or something.Deep down I truly believe this so i avoid the public @ all costs as well so as to avoid being humiliated.
I don't make excuses though; I just flat out tell the truth to people who invite me out and if they refuse to believe me, then that's on them.
I think that it's unfortunate that people stop talking to you simply because you are unable to see or hangout with them. I can probably see why you may not be getting invited out anymore; perhaps the people who are usually asking you out are just discouraged because they know that you would be unable to make it?
Either way, it's no excuse for them to stop talking to you.
You can always come to us. We understand agoraphobia and social anxiety better than most others.
@StrongCelticLass,
I don't think you're pathetic. I think that it's just circumstances that stand in our way of moving out or moving away from our parents. I don't like the social stigma that has been placed on those who still live with parents in their adulthood. I believe that we do all that we can to improve our lives. Sorry for what you are going through. I can relate to feeling like others see us as less than human.
But we are just as human as anyone else. We are just having rough times that many people do not seem to understand.
Im starting to feel like sickest person in the whole world and the lonelinest.
Now I dont even hear much from people by email and I find myself constantly apologizing. My hb is an abuser and I can't get away from him because I can't grocery shop or do anything.
Tried drugs for 30 years and no response. I really can't take it much longer. The drugs are for depression and anxiety and panic.
This is truly no way to live. I am at the point where I wish thre was just one person in this world whom I coud communicate with who would understand and be there for me. I am willing to be there for others ... always have been. Seems like when you get sick, everyone takes a hike. Trying not to be bitter and to understand that that is just human behavior, but seriously, I have been there when I have been able to even for a friend that was dying.
Sorry for everyone on here. ((((((((hugs to all)))))).
If you need someone to listen, message me.
