I have the vinyl mattress cover also. Good quality adult diaper with a proven track record means everything, then high back (or high waist) plastic pants with snug elastics top and bottom. The standard height plastic pants allow fluid to flow if it's a saturated night, right through the small of the back, the high backs ride higher and where they ride the back is more straight across unlike the lower section where the back is more concave.

I use rubber sheet under me & rubber sheet over me as I wet every night.

I have a hospital waterproof fitted cover with elastic edges so mattress sides are covered; topped by a real
rubber sheet - and rubber pillowcase. I wear Tena Slip Maxi with cotton and rubber pants.
[Rubber is now expensive and harder to obtain, but effective, long-lasting and comfortable]

I wear rubber panties & sleep with a rubber sheet under my cloth sheet. Keeps my mattress nice & dry.

I have a vinyl mattress protector. It makes me feel like I'm 7 years old again, but it saves the mattress every time. I wear Northshore Supreme with dual soakers inside of it and pull up vinyl pants that are high backed.

I sleep in a diaper and properly sized plastic pants. For the bed and the occasional leak, I have a flannel and rubber sheet underneath a conventional mattress pad.
