Adoption Support Group
Adoption is the legal act of permanently placing a child with a parent or parents other than the birth parents. Whether you are looking to adopt, putting your child up for adoption, parenting an adopted child, or just thinking about it, this is the place to discuss.

Hi Everyone. I'm new to this support group. My DH and I have been trying to conceive for about 4 years now. We want a family badly. Needless to say - all the fertility treatment we did over the last year resulted in no pregnancies.
My DH and I have always been open to the idea of adoption. Neither of us ever defined a family as a group of people with related DNA.
When we first started treatment we found out that my DH had a male factor that would prevent him from having a biological child so he had to come to terms with that from the start. I was told that there was nothing wrong with me and that getting me pregnant would be easy.
Over a year later and the doctors still can't figure out what is wrong. According to all the tests - I am textbook "normal". This has made moving on to adoption more difficult for me. My DH knows what an IVF does to me emotionally and physically (not ot mention finacially) so he wants to stop treatment and go directly to adoption. I am fine with this too. I don't think I could handle another IVF cycle. I guess I am still getting use to seperating pregnancy from motherhood.
I know that my DH and I will make great parents. I know that I will love any child that comes into my life. We also know that we want siblings and that if they have some special needs that we can handle it.
What I am nervous about is telling my family that we are moving on to adoption. Discussing my fertility treatments has never been an issue and because of that I think they are going to challenge the decision. They know that there is still the possibility to do another IVF but we decided its not the path for us. I know its not for them to decide but they have been my support network for so long. I don't think that I can explain our rational to them without exploding with emotion.
For those of you who decided to adopt - did you find it hard to tell your families?

Is anyone here allergic to Sulfa that is currently taking Diamox? I have been diagnosed with IH now for almost 2 years. I am allergic to Sulfa drugs meaning that my throat will swell up so my Neurologist put me on Topamax. I was suffering from major loud whoosing noises and the topamax helped that but everyday I still hear those mainly between 6 - 12 pm. I am at my wits end and have not went...

Tonight I go for my initial information meeting. I am nervous and excited. I really want this to work out.
Plze don't underestimate that this will happen because undoubtedly it will at some point.. The more prepared you are for it happening, even 20 years later the better.
best wishes for you, I know you will have a wonderfully fulfilling family!
