Hi, I have been reading about different studies regarding use of vitamin B6 suppliments, grape seed extract and DHA (found in Omega-3 suppliments)
has anyone had success with using this method, if so how long did it take. There are so many studies out there, it's daunting to say the least! One study I was encouraged about was done in Germany wheras three groups were given a placebo, ritalin, the other vitamin B6. after 40 weeks (long time I know) teachers felt the ritalin and vitamin B6 group had the same benefits. My son is 6 and is on ritalin short acting, and wellbutron. Additionally I give him 200 mg of B6, He is unable to swallow the grape extract as it is a big capsule.I am desperately looking for a different treatment, my son hates taking his stimulants, but it does help in school. Personal note:I HATE ADHD!! so challenging, beyond my scope. Every letter I read regarding the frustrating behavior of a child with adhd sounds as if I could have wrote it......

Is anyone here allergic to Sulfa that is currently taking Diamox? I have been diagnosed with IH now for almost 2 years. I am allergic to Sulfa drugs meaning that my throat will swell up so my Neurologist put me on Topamax. I was suffering from major loud whoosing noises and the topamax helped that but everyday I still hear those mainly between 6 - 12 pm. I am at my wits end and have not went...

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
The only "alternative" treatment that I have tried with my child has been neuro-feedback. for 12 weeks we would go to meetings where my son was hooked up to a machine and his brain waves controlled movements on the screen. The treatment was finalized, but I don't see any imporvements. The treatment is expensive and being an alternative is not covered by insurance. At the end of it all, the clinic where the neurofeedback was taking place ended up telling us that our son also has auditory processing issues, and that is why he didn't benefit from treatment as well as other children have.
I will look more into the Vitamin B6 treatment and see if that works.
In our stressed out times, we've tried a number of them, only to feel more guilty because we were treating our kids like guinea pigs.
Why are you using short acting Ritalin? It tends to have the biggest rebound effect (as shown by studies and personal experience with three ADD/ADHD kids) and requires multiple doses a day. We do use it, but only as a boost after school so they can get their homework done without undue trials and tribulations.
Ritalin is methylphenidate, and Concerta, Focalin and Daytrana are all based on methylphenidate, but have different delivery mechanisms to deal with issues specific to each child - such as faster absorption, more dose in the morning versus evenly distributed, etc.
