Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

I've been back and forth between home and in patient hospital visits. E. Coli, skin GVHD and now I'm back with C. Diff. Tried going back to work full time but I only made it one day before the C. Diff kicked in. Hopefully soon I'll be back.
All my best to everyone out there!
So so great to hear from you! I honestly was think about you this week. I hope this new format will not keep people away. This site really helps people.
I'm so happy that you are doing well and continue to have an amazing attitude. Praying almighty God for you.
Blessings

You are all in my daily prayers and with this format no one seems to post updates anymore so being a worrier, I worry about everyone.

I am here and so so so happy to hear you are doing awesome!!! What a blessing that you are here to raise your three precious sons. Try Nioxen for your hair. My hair is growing like crazy and longer than when I was dxd 4 years ago yesterday.

I wish the others would check in too.
I know this new format is a pain, but it would be nice to hear how others are doing.

That is great news and it is great to hear from you. I have been quiet on here, but still watch. Part of the quietness is that it is quiet. :o Lame excuse, I know, but the traffic is just very slow.
I am very happy to hear that things are going well and you are nearing the 1 year point. I know my first year went very slowly. I imagine that if yours was anything like mine, you are starting to emerge from the cocoon looking for a return of somewhat normal life.
The last four months for me have brought that. I have returned to work and am busy as a beaver. Graft versus host is present, but minimal. Been off immunosuppressants for nearly 9 months although I recently went on restasis for my eyes. They have been very painful and dry. Small price to pay for no leukemia.
How is your GVH? Hopefully minimal as well. Write back when you can and give us updates. I wish Andy and others would too...
With love,
John
As for me, I'm over 4 years post transplant and at the end of July will be 5 years post diagnosis. I've been living a normal life for several years now, working like a dog, enjoying time with friends and family, dealing with all the challenges that come my way. I still have mild GVHD, mostly dry mouth and some dry eye, I take some Biotene and eyedrops occasionally and it gets me by. I got shingles about a year or two post transplant and the nerve pain has persisted, mainly at night, so I take some gabapentin for that. But it's manageable and really doesn't stop me from doing anything. It's amazing what modern medicine is capable of and we're all living proof.
I hope to see you all around more often. Enjoy the Easter/Passover holidays.
