Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
I thought I would give an update on Jeremy. Yesterday was 18 months post SCT for him and he is doing well. He is off all meds except an antiviral as his whites are still lower than normal by .02.
He and his wife are planning their first vacation and looking forward to getting away for a few days.
He has 16 months left on his ped psych fellowship and really looking forward to helping children in need.
I want to thank everyone for their continued prayers and if anyone wants to talk to a psych that has been through a SCT I am sure he would be happy to talk with you.

I gave up on DS, because the new format is so "user unfriendly." I am now wading back into the somewhat annoying waters. I am glad that I am back, because so much of the news is fantastic! I have been generally well and am inching closer and closer to Sept 8, which will be my 5th birthday post-transplant. My family is well. I am so happy that Jeremy is moving along with his residency. My own daughter is a resident in Anesthesiology at Yale and I know how taxing the hours can be. If Jeremy is holding up as well as he is, then he has successfully vanquished his AML. I am thrilled. If any of you know how to see a list of posting threads and the new and not-improved DS, let me know. That would make navigating so much easier for me.

Cliff, try to click on the "Daily Strength" on the top of the page. That will list the threads on the left two thirds of the screen with the first one or two lines of the first post visible. But there are no dates so you need to go in and see when was the last posting. It takes some getting used to and I `don't see the benefit of all the work that went into developing the new site. But it doesn't change what we're here for, to help people who are scared, depressed, confused and struggling with all sorts of issues related to AML You are an important part of our group. Please stay around, do what you do even though working with the new site is a pain in the neck. And congratulations on 5 years!!!

They are are waiting until everything checks out with the doctor in a few weeks before telling others.
Although they froze semen before his treatment, my son decided not to use it since he had MDS and AML when it was collected.
I had accepted that there would be no more grandkids since doctors felt that he would be infertial after all his treatments, but apparently the good Lord decided otherwise.

They tried to arrange contact with Jeremys donnor, but he has not responded, so the transplant coordinator is closing the inquiry file and we will never get to thank this wonderful person for their gift of life to Jeremy and their future baby.

Many who do selfless things, like donate marrow, want to remain anonymous. Not just for anonymity but also maybe not to receive praise or reward this side of heaven.

True gifts are given in love and need no acknowledgement. What a precious gift of life Jeremy s donor has given and almighty God had multiplied that gift with the amazing gift of life only God can give.
Just think of the reunion in Heaven when Jeremy can meet and thank his donor. I want front row seats for that!!!

I love love love baby girls, I have three of them now 12, 14 and 16. It does not surprize me that Jeremy's miracle baby is a girl, female sperm is exponentially more hardy than male sperm.
Air Force fighter pilots almost always have girls due to the g force on their bodies. Female sperm live 72 hours while males barely make it 12 hours. I'm sure with all the punishment Jeremy's body went through for SCT the girl swimmers survived. Praise almighty God for miracles, Jeremy's healing and unexpected baby girl.

We were more than reassured that the sperm is totally unaffected by aml and even that it's stored in the tested for quite some time first after being produced by the body, before it is ejaculate (sorry, lol)
It was scary but using the sample that was collected post chemo was not an option in my opinion
So if they want more children after this please tell them our story and about beautiful baby Anthony.
