Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group

Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

I thought I would give an update on Jeremy. Yesterday was 18 months post SCT for him and he is doing well. He is off all meds except an antiviral as his whites are still lower than normal by .02.

He and his wife are planning their first vacation and looking forward to getting away for a few days.

He has 16 months left on his ped psych fellowship and really looking forward to helping children in need.

I want to thank everyone for their continued prayers and if anyone wants to talk to a psych that has been through a SCT I am sure he would be happy to talk with you.

Today is the 2 year mark from when Jeremy was diagnosed with MDS/AML and I just heard from my daughter in law that his 18 month post SCT is good.

Congrats! My son will be 18 months post BMT on April 17. They do not do an 18 month BMB, just one more at 2 years. His blood work has been good, other than high monocytes--they have been elevated off and on pretty much since transplant. Everything else looks good though. Glad Jeremy is doing well. It's great that he is going into the mental health field. I am a clinical social worker and do counseling at an outpatient clinic. He will certainly be an asset to anyone who has been down this road!

I completely agree with you and he is completing his fellowship in ped psych, so he will be able to help children that may be going through this.

Glad to hear Julian is doing well. Jeremy agreed to a clinical trial because of his MDS, so he has a bmb whenever it calls for one. They are hoping his case will help them treat others with MDS since most cases are elderly they haven't been able to do alot of trials.

glad to hear Jeremy is doing so well. I'm in the same boat for bmb being in a clinical trial (in s.o.c. group, not taking the drug) but I've done my last one (hopefully). My youngest son Jeremy leaves for the Air Force on April 26th, going to miss him, will be really his 1st time away from home.

That must be scarey for all of you (Jeremy leaving). I know when my Jeremy left for his residency it was for us and he is only 3 hours away.
