Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

Anyone know how it works when donor is international? Do they collect the marrow and fly it or fly the person? Just curious. My brother will have a second transplant in June. We just learned the donor is a 22 year old male, international --- we are pleased because we wanted a young male.
Now, please pray this time works --- different, younger donor and being able to stay on 2215 after transplant ---- pray God, the combo gives us blessed results.

Do they think the rash is GVHD? Jeremy got a rash on his belly and upper arm, they thought it was GVHD but he said he had it before the sct. They treated it as GVHD and nothing changed so I think they ruled it out.

It sounds like bro is doing much better and I know what you mean about the food. They did let me bring in home cooked meals to Jeremy which he loved. Maybe they will let you too? I had a list of approved food and had to keep it hot until he ate it.

It has only been two days. I did not sense urgency about it. If it is GVHD, will that delay his being released?
We have taken soups and some foods in --- if he does have to stay, I will be getting him some frozen meals.

The food at Karmanos was the worst thing about the place. I think I would have had a hard time eating even the best food at that point though. Had to make myself eat, mainly soup that was brought in from my family and ensure "shakes". Don't worry about the rash even if it is GVHD, easily treatable and won't keep him in the hospital.

THANK YOU so much for that reassurance. We need to get him home. It has been 5 long weeks and his 90 year old mother simply cannot pray anymore than she does - and managing her is half my battle.

No they did keep Jeremy in any longer because of the rash they just gave him steriods to take.

Praying that Bro gets to come home real soon.

Just arrived home. The dog licked him and then went over to his wife and licked her, as if to say Look Who Is Home.
Now we have to pray that these donor cells Work, Work, Work!

A week out and reports are positive. Good blood numbers, no sign of Flt3!! No Transfusions since discharge! After living off blood and platelets for months. Cleared to resume 2215 after an eye exam which we hope to get in tomorrow.
Thanks for all those prayers and THANK YOU GOD for hope.

Is tired with no appetite and has some gvhd but docs feel some is good in the long run.
