Great news on the Donor. I remember a while back I believe it was Abby posted that she was on a flight and the person next to her had a canister and they told her it was donor cells for a BMT. I will be praying For your brothers transplant.

I was thinking of the same story so I located the post above. I know many who received there cells from Germany to include our amazing Cliff. I woman I knew flew her entire family to Germany to meet her twentieosh German donor and his family. For those that are of northern European decent, Germany is a huge source due to incentives posted by the German government.

Praise almighty God for a miracle 10/10 match for Dave!!!!

Thanks for all your input. We will not know much more but i cant help but wonder if the donor is not English or Irish. We have strong roots and dna links to the island. But we are trusting this is a perfect match chosen by God. Ethnicity is not relevant. Just interesting. Like Sloan, no contact for two years. Think bro can write a letter to the donor that gets handled somehow. My 90 yr old mom told him to say she will pray for the donor every day of her life. God willing, she will have several good years before i take up the promise.

That is wonderful that a 10/10 donor match has been found for your brother. I truly hope he sails through it all and is another step closer to beating the leukemia.
At the hospital in Australia where I had my BMT, they had a BMT coordinator. She would coordinate with the overseas donor/hospital and actually fly out to pick up the sample and fly back to Australia with it. The sample can be frozen, and thawed later for transplant. You do lose some stem cells in the thawing process.

Great news! In Jetemy's case the stem cells were flown to Blood Source here in Sacramento, checked and then delivered to the hospital by them.

Just th marrow is collected then flown over. Actually it's not that uncommon especially for people of European descent. Praying that your brother will be strong and the donor cells will be easily assimilated with little or no gvhd or any other complications. Also praying that the chemo for induction ? ( pre transplant) will be not difficult.

I have not fallen off the earth - just did not want to post every little bump and turn on this journey.
Bro's second transplant was on June 10. All went as planned from what I know. He had some post transplant issues with blood clots in the arms and irritated bowel issues that took him off all by mouth for about 4 days.
The numbers have recovered nicely. Starting to eat a little and did a full round of the floor today for the first time. Talk of coming home in about a week.
Weak and tired but still being positive. This time he got some young 22 year old male marrow - and will be allowed back on the 2215 trial drug - so hoping the combo will allow him to beat this bastard disease once and for all --
nervous for the road ahead but one day at a time ---- hope and prayers for all

Margaret, this all sounds so promising. It's normal to come across some 'bumps' in the transplant journey but sounds like your brother has climbed the hill and ready to move home and on to healing. I have everything crossed that the second time around will beat this to the kerb once and for all.

Praying those young 22 year old stem cells cure your brother, Dave once and for all.

Thought Bro would come home today but they kept him supposedly to make sure he could eat more. He as recently developed skin rash around his wrists. He is about day 25 so now I am worried about this. Sure hoping it does not keep him in too much more. He needs to get home to get away from that awful hospital food --- I watched him try to eat what they called meatloaf but it was disgusting looking.
Any thoughts?
Otherwise, seems the numbers are good. He had a BMT yesterday as required to go back on the study drug 2215.
