Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group

Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

My dear fellow warriors and friends,

Today I took a call from the husband of my transplant buddy. She is 27 a mother of a beautiful girl and a fantastic woman. Today I learnt she has relapsed for the second time.

We were diagnosed a day apart, transplanted together , we have the same genetic mutations ,we shared the same apartment complex post transplant , we became great friends, we laughed, cried, screamed and rejoiced together.

No treatment plan is in place yet but that will be forth coming. She is so brave and has a never ever give up attitude. She has been a member of this site in the past.

So tonight( or morning depending on where you live) I ask for your prayers, prayers for strength, for courage and for a treatment plan.

I have already said a prayer, and I will continue to pray for your friend. Please let her know that we are all pulling for her and that we know that God's power is unlimited. Perhaps some others will have advice on options after a relapse. It is most important that she stay positive and stay in the fight. It sounds like this is the case, and I am sure that your encouragement helps -- perhaps ours will as well. May God guide her medical team into the best possible treatment, and may that treatment be totally successful. Amen. -- dave

Planxty -- we will continue to pray for your friend -- they are learning new and different things every day, and as long as she is alive there is hope. Please keep us up as they determine her treatment plan. All of our hearts ache as we empathize with you and her. We have all had our setbacks and we know how it feels. Thank you for your kindness.

So far the news has not changed. No treatment plan as lungs are compromised at the moment. WCC was 90 on admission and is now at 136 I'm not great on blood counts but I know this is high.

On another note, the relic of St Anthony arrived in our city yesterday and just to let you know I completed a petition for each of you on the site.

This is all so sad. It brings back memories of a very young girl that I met just after receiving my transplant. I would walk with her and her mother every day, in circles around the floor -- round and around -- laughing, albeit nervously. She had also had a rough road, partly due to the horrendous care she got while living with her Canadian boyfriend in western Canada. She passed away the day I left the hospital. It deflated the exhilaration that I felt about my own progress and I cannot think about her without welling up...to this day. I pray for your young friend and that something miraculous comes her way.

Is anyone here allergic to Sulfa that is currently taking Diamox? I have been diagnosed with IH now for almost 2 years. I am allergic to Sulfa drugs meaning that my throat will swell up so my Neurologist put me on Topamax. I was suffering from major loud whoosing noises and the topamax helped that but everyday I still hear those mainly between 6 - 12 pm. I am at my wits end and have not went...
