Im new here, 24 years old, diagnosed with acromegaly two months ago. Ive had surgery on the 28/01/09, and with 3 blood tests completed, things arent looking too promising - GH with values of 11, 11.9, and 4.2, and IGF-1 levels all above 800. I guess the next step are the shots and possibly RT, which Im really not inclined to do. I guess Im just looking for an insight on what lies ahead of me.
So right now Im feeling hopeless, depressed, and even contemplating suicide. I see all my dreams going down the pipe (and believe me I had big dreams). So many thoughts going through my mind, starting with blame. Blaming myself for not looking deeper into my symptoms. Ive had headaches, oily skin, and eye problems for a year and a half now, also coupled with trouble sleeping.
Blaming doctors - I was using braces with the aim of corrective surgery to solve the lower jaw over-bite. Countless visits to different ofthamologists and dermathologists. And my diagnosis was done by... a shrink.
Anyway, I guess its all futile to think about this at this stage.

You will see changes and it WILL take time. I had my surgery a little over two years ago and it just is a slow process. I understand your frustration, I think we have all experienced the same thing with all the medical problems we have endured and then to finally find out we have this disease. But at least it's a diagnosis and we now know what we are dealing with. Hang in there. We're here for you.
