Accutane and pituitary issues

Hi everyone, there have been some major side effects reported from the medication Accutane, which is taken for acne. A friend has said that some of these side effects MAY relate to hypothalmus and pituitary disorders. I took Accutane many years ago and now I'm wondering if it had a role in creating my pituitary problems/tumor. I want to know:

how many people in this group have taken Accutane prior to finding out they have any pituitary problems?

Just for some added benefit to this conversation. I have never had Accutane prescribed for me. Despite having some minor chronic acne related issues in my life.

I have a Pituitary Tumor left, before surgery diagnosed as Maco Adenoma. It is a GH Secreting Tumor, and I had literally ZERO Testosterone Level. Zilch! No Testosterone pumping through my body at the time my blood work was completed pre-surgery in the Hospital.

So, just for some extra insight. Pit Tumor, GH Secreting, No Testosterone... And Did not take Accutane.

Ive had cystic acne for 9yrs and Ive been taking a lot of antibiotics since last 9yrs including Ampicillin, Tetracycline. Now Ive been diagnosed with Acromegaly due to Pituitary Tumor.

As soon as I found out about the tumor I asked my Endo if it could be coz of long term antibiotic use and he said no. But I have a feeling its coz of that. My testosterone is very very low and my libido is zero.

By the way, it could also be the other way round, I read that high IGF can lead to very oily skin and thus acne. So maybe my tumor developed 9yrs back and caused acne. Not sure. No doctor knows :(

I think Andy is on to something here. Part of the symptoms of Acromegaly is thickening of the skin and increased oil and acne. I have acromegaly and I was never on long term antibiotics or accutane. It makes sense that many people had previously been on accutane. When a dermatologists sees thickened oily skin they commonly prescribe Accutane. There is a high probability that you needed Accutane because you have a GH producing pituitary tumor. I wish I could figure out what caused mine. My mom thought it was the years of fertility drugs that I took. But, again, acromegaly affects your fertility. I bet there are quite a few people on here who have taken Clomid or Pergonal. I don't believe those drugs caused my tumor. I believe the tumor caused me to need to use these medications. Just a thought...
