Having a bad skin day? Year? Life? Join the club. The most common form of acne is known as "acne vulgaris", meaning "common acne." Excessive secretion of oils from the sebaceous glands accompanies the plugging of the pores with naturally occurring dead skin cells (corneocytes) blocking hair follicles. Here you'll find how others are coping with their acne issues, plus new...
You HAVE to be on Birth Control while taking it, and I believe HAVE to get pregnancy tests every so often while on it b/c it is VERY, VERY HARMFUL to a fetus if one gets pregnant.
It's usually a treatment of last resort.
Though, I am 32 now, and still have acne, so the effects are not everlasting for me.
I totally agree with everything you have said except your final remark. I sympathize deeply for you and your family and I can tell you honestly I know how you feel (my mother in law was on a selection of mood related treatments before she ended her life). However please don't say that its the medication that ripped your family apart. IF your brothers medication did aggravate his depression, it is the lack of monitoring the side effects that possibly have effected the outcome. I know its easy to blame specific things and it makes us feel better but I think I can speak for a many people here and say since the medication has worked we have been less depressed. I for one am a whole new person. Sorry.
So sorry for your loss Josie! This medicine can be dangerous but hating your skin is terrible too. I suppose patients should have a support person who they tell everything to.
I did end up going on it for 5 months about three years ago. I started on a small dose and titrated up like most people. I HAVE HAD ABOUT 2 PIMPLES IN THREE YEARS!!!! ITS TRULY AMAZING AND I RECOMMEND IT TOTALLY!!! Its pretty depressing messing around with heaps of different medications and cleansing routines with minimum result. I found Rawleighs ointment made my lips fine and a heavy moisturiser. Don't wait!
Are you in AUSTRALIA? Its CRAZY that some people are on 2 kinds of birth control because i dont have to be on the pill AT ALL! i just had to tell my Dermo that i wouldnt get pregnant and have a pregnancy test before starting treatment...
Also about the whole depression thing: when i got roaccutane, my dermo gave me this pack with loads of testers of all kinds of moisturising goodies with a book about everything you need to know about the drug. it highlighted leading research into the correlation between the drug and depression: ALL were inconclusive. personally ill be jumping out of my skin when ive got skin like a baby!
