Working Out & Feeling Good
I hurt my back at work on November 4th, and I've been off and mostly immobile since. I started a special program through worksafe which has me work with a physiotherapist and kineseologist in the gym. I've spent the past 3 days in the gym, and it feels incredible. Don't get me wrong, I'm exhausted, and I'm in pain, because rehabilitating an injury sucks, but getting out and doing something productive feels good. I spend 4 hours a day in the gym, and I'm beginning to make new friends. Harley is my favourite, big biker/trucker, and just an all around good guy. We tease each other and joke around, it makes the day go by quicker. So far the longest I've been able to walk on the treadmill is 20 minutes, "comfortably uncomfortable" I like to say. As long as the pain isn't severe, I push. At the start of the gym session I'm lucky if I can manage 10 minutes on the treadmill, by the end, after a lot of stretching and heat packs, I can push myself to stay on longer. I think gettting out of the house and getting active is really helping my psychological well-being. I was really starting to feel suffocated and trapped.
