What hasn't happened?
I'm not in a writing head space, but I keep putting this off. I keep asking myself "what next?" Because everything keeps coming at me.
Friday was supposed to be the start to an amazing bachelor party that Colin was hosting for our friend Mike. Well not only were there issues with Colin's ex best friend Zac, but Mike broke his back while quadding. Or rather, while jumping off a quad that was going straight at a tree... The emotions were intense. It was hard to keep it together for Colin and Courtney. Mike is okay, he's able to walk because the spinal cord wasn't effected. They were worried about nerve damage but the CT cleared that. Four broken vertebrae from falling down a 30-60ft ravine and he can still walk... Hell, he climbed out of the damn thing!
Obviously I wasn't there when it happened, neither was Colin, actually. He had driven into town to pick up a friend (who was late and not gonna be there). Wen he got back to the mountain he had to race to the crash site and drive his friends to the hospital. They should have called an ambulance but the groom insisted he didn't need it - I would have made them, if for no other reason, you skip the waiting room and triage.
So I was at home when Courtney called, she told me Colin called her and that Mike just had a bit of road rash. We needed to meet them at Hope hospital. So we did, the doc let her in, then shared the news. They did some scans and transferred him to Abbotsford hospital for the CT. He was released around 2am - we were just getting home ourselves at 1:30am when they told us that.
Courtney held it together really well, but I think she was in survival mode, full of adrenaline. I drove her car between the two hospitals cause I didn't think she was up for it. We waited with her until she could visit him, waited until she confirmed she was staying in till the test results came back, at which point we left cause it was 12:30am. We needed to be in Chilliwack at 8:30am. Courtney admitted that she went into shock the next morning - white, clammy, uncontrollable crying... Fortunately Mike was with her and they were at home.
Colin blamed himself. Partially because he planned it, but also because he wasn't on the mountain. He thinks if he'd been up there, he'd have been on his, and someone would have been riding double with Mike. If that had been the case, Mike would have gone slower. There were other people who were supposed to be there that weren't though. People who decided to work instead, Zac who refused to go because he "didn't have enough information" but truthfully didn't have enough money and wanted to make Colin look bad with his excuse.
Chaos. So much chaos.
And yesterday at chiro, Dr. A informed me that he's expecting a second baby in December. Very exciting for him. Now that's three people in my daily life who are pregnant: Katie, Julie (kinesiologist), and Dr A('s wife). Neither Julie or Dr A's announcement is overly upsetting, I think because they're both past the high risk period. Katie is still in the early days and shared information about being RH- that I didn't know.
