Voices

I just got out of the hospital a couple of days ago. I've been experiencing auditory hallucinations off and on since I was four years old. I'm currently on two antipsychotic medicines, Clozapine and Zyprexa. Although I'm on pretty strong medications, I still hear voices sometimes. It's hard to describe what it's like when I hear them. It's mostly just negative stuff about the people around me or myself.

When I was young, 18 years old, my pdoc put me on Tofranil and Navane after a suicide attempt. I got a job as caregiver of an elderly man who had a son-in-law who was a lay minister and shared some Christian tracts with me. My first experience with Jesus was when I was 11 years old and attending a local Baptist church. My 14-year-old sister dared me to go up for the altar call at the end of the morning service. The pastor's wife led me in a prayer to receive Jesus as my Lord and Savior, but I didn't actively serve Him until I was 20 years old and working as a caregiver for an elderly Christian lady. At the time, I'd done something I wouldn't dare do today: stopping my psych medications. Fortunately I didn't become psychotic.

Today, a good day for me is one in which I don't hear voices, or if I do hear them, am able to "talk back to" them.

Was it accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal saviour that jolted you to stop the psych meds for that short time?

Yes. I was 18 years old, and knew very little about psych meds, their side effects, the risks of stopping them, etc. The Lord has always been merciful to me. But as I got older, I started having some problems and finally consented to medication again.
