velvet spirit
I posted on the main board about the stray kitten who disrupted my sleep 2 nights ago. Looks like she plans to stay so I have chosen to name her Velvet Spirit. There are many reasons behind that name, but mostly I choose to use her as my inspiration...
She's a skinny little thing, just long legs, big ole eyes and a lot of bones. But boy does she have spirit. She is an independent little thing, and loud. Boy is she loud.
But we have also discovered she is just the most loving little creature. She is still a little skittish around us and still hides when we call her, but I woke up last night to find her fast asleep on my chest. She has roamed our home and garden but when its sleepy time she finds either me or my son. She LOVES to be touched, you start stroking her and she molds herself you your hands and purrs and purrs. She likes to lick and nibble on my fingers, I think this is her way of showing her affection (yes I feed her every time she does it but she just seems to like to do that before she falls asleep). And she loves to play. I already had to make her a play toy as she is hanging off my curtains and chasing anything that moves.
When she found us she her fur was all spiky and matted. After just 2 days of feeding and loving, she is looking soft and fluffy. Just like velvet.
She is my reminder of who I want to be on this journey. Tough as nails. She had to be to make her way to us. Fearless. Yes she will hide but trust me she is not backing down. She is already trying to chase our dog around the house. She is adaptable. I guess she has taken the lemons life threw at her and made lemonade. I am surprised at how she just fit into our little family unit without missing a beat.
And she has brought so much joy in such a short time. She is soft and cuddly and just a happy baby. That is who I want to be too. I want to be able to make the most of a bad situation, adjust to new challenges and not lose that ability to be soft and cuddly and happy, bringing peace to myself and joy to others in the process.
She is my comfort and inspiration.. my velvet spirit.

Glad for the pets you have in your life. They are a comfort. I miss our own dog. It is interesting how that little kitten is being very different things for you. Makes me smile to think of that little ball of life running around your home. Hugs.

First of all, I want to tell you that this was beautifully written. I am a past subscriber of Guideposts magazine, and I could easily see this as an article in the magazine.
And I think that Velvet Spirit is so precious...a precious, loving kitten. If I could have a pet right now, I would want one like little Velvet.

That really was such a beautiful journal and I love the name you chose,\"velvet spirit \".Things seem to happen for a reason, looks like you both really needed each other right now. There is a wonderful exchange going on there.Velvet Spirit has been given a new home, with love and security by you,and she has given you some added inspiration to soldier on in your difficult time.Aww, so sweet.
I loved this journal, Max! Looks like the new Queen has arrived!!! Already chasing the dog around the house?? How precious! I\'m so happy she found you.
I love what you\'ve taken from this experience so far. Velvet Sprit surely is a fighter, and a winner, isn\'t she? How wonderful that she brought this inspiration along with her cute little self to her new home.
